is it necessary that I complete the PPD Skin test?

I don't recall my DS being tested for TB, but it's not like I went in the room with him for the DoD physical either. Does it say you need to get one in the PTR?

I'm not sure. It says "All required vaccines that you have not received prior to I-Day will be given on that day at no cost to the student" but later down the page it says "A documented Mantoux Tuberculin Skin Test (PPD) or QuantiFERON®-TB Gold screening for Tuberculosis must have been performed after Jan 1 of this year . . . For Quantiferon Gold testing, please attach the results to this form and bring 2 additional copies with you on I-Day. If you have a positive test, please bring copies of the evaluation done by your provider to include the x-ray report to I-Day"

What do you make of this? If I do need to get it, how will I be able to with doctors offices being closed?

A TB test requires you go back to the administering office within 48-72 hours to check the injection site reaction & verify a negative or positive result. In my opinion, you will need to get this done before IDay as they likely wouldn't admit someone without a negative finding, putting everyone else at risk. Check your local Health Department if your physician cannot see you to get the skin test.

DS was able to get his pediatrician to administer the required PPD skin test. He then had to go back to get it read and reported on the proper form after 48 hours. His pediatrician is only seeing babies right now (for required immunizations), but made an exception for DS since it's for the military. Maybe yours would as well. Also, I don't know where you are, but restrictions are being lifted in some areas, and it won't hurt for you to wait a few weeks to get the test taken when the doctors might start opening more. Just remember you do have to be able to return to have the skin test read for any reaction between 48-72 hours later as mentioned in the previous post.

Try calling your county health department and inquiring.

Also call your doctor. I do t think they are actually closed. Or if they are, you should be able to find out how to go about getting the test done. Give it a good try!!

The Quantiferon is a one time stick/blood draw. It is an excellent test. This may be a better option given the current situation.

.
The pathogen is injected below the skin on the 1st office visit .... On the 2nd visit several days later, they look for swelling and redness.

This is one of the tests that we and DD punted on when she arrived at NAPS last year. The immunization sheet she had with her indicated clearly all the immunizations and tests.

We called the NAPS health folks, and they said that they would take care of it.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about it. You are in the Navy now. They own you.
