Is it ok to wait until October for exam?

My son is applying to USAFA. He just received his info from DODMETS and the nearest exam center is an hour away. His school has a holiday in early October, so he can do the exam on that day and not miss any school. When we called to schedule, they seemed surprised that we were waiting so long. Is there any issue if we don't schedule the exam ASAP?

Also, the extra month will give him time to lose some weight. He's currently about 10 lbs over the max weight. Pretty sure we can get the weight down before the exam using methods fighters/wrestlers use to cut weight, but I'd rather see him closer before we have to do that.

No. He has the baton in the race. It's totally up to him :zip:

The issue with waiting, is that it shortens the time he has available to clear things up, if necessary.

Maybe their surprise is that usually they want to schedule ASAP, rather than a reflection of anything else?

Yes, my advice is on all aspects of applications for admission...get from point A to point B as soon as possible...then the applicant can hold Admissions accountable for a decision...VERSUS..." Admissions response is we're still waiting for you to submit X...:director:

Curious if he scheduled his appointments? My DD just got qualified for AF but she had a medical remedial that required us to drive 2 hours to the appointment (so we didn't have to pay which would've cost about $350) so the sooner you get the original appointments done, the better. She entered into the DODMETS system July 22, so that was a 2 month spread without any real issues. Good luck!

The weight loss may be a non-issue. If a he is over the table weight he will have to get a tape test for body fat percentage. Anyone that is on the O-line or D-line in football will miserably fail table weight, but when the neck and waist is measured will pass body fat percentage (in most cases).
