I am a 2021 Baseball player, and I was wondering if it is too late to get recruited for sports?

Thank you

Have you already completed an application? If not, then it is getting late in the game but not impossible as long as you have not missed your nomination deadlines. If so or if it is nearing completion, reach out to the coach. I had a candidate of mine who was just contacted by a coach last weekend.

Reach out to the coach. Not sure how it works but it appears to me the coach’s can recruit athletes even if they did not go through the nomination process. There is a cadet in my daughter’s squad who did not go through the nomination process but was recruited in May By the coach. A few years ago another family friends daughter was being recruited for a sport. She went through the nomination process and did not receive a nomination but the coach was able to get her a slot. Each sport may be different on how the recruiting works.

Everyone who attends one of the DOD SAs and USMMA requires a nomination. There are several nom sources. The Superintendent has some discretionary noms which could be used for candidates who do not otherwise get a nom.

If you are a 2021 athlete why have you waited until now? If you are good enough to play D1 baseball then you should have put yourself out there for at least the last two years. I would guess the baseball team has their recruits for this year but if you get in you maybe can try to walk on as their is really no scholarship per say for SA it would just depend on talent and space.

I have wanted to attend a SA for years, so I was only interested in playing for one. The only academy who was interested so far was USCGA, and WP had a walkon spot before one of the coaches changed. I was just asking because I have been working and seen more improvement recently then before.

A walk on spot at tryouts is your best shot. My DS was talking to USMA and USNA before he was injured. IF he can gain an appointment AND he can rehab well he will try out. It looks like Air Force has 13 recruits listed on Perfect Game. I would assume that their class is "full". That being said if you can sit 92, I assume they will take a long look at tryouts.

If Air Force was interested however, could they still assist in the recruiting process/have a spot waiting?

Connor - I doubt it at this point. My oldest son plays D1 Baseball. The recruiting class at most schools is 8-10 kids per year. There are always more who claim they get offers, but the reality is with a 35 man roster there are typically 8-10 spots. there are a number who get preferred walk-on spots which means they typically get to play fall ball and try to get a spot.

For selective schools - like the Ivy league or the academies - no one really knows how many slots coaches get per year. A sport like baseball gets fewer than other sports. These are slots where coaches can influence admissions as long as the candidate is within a standard deviation of the mean for that school. Since academies do not have scholarships, I suspect the process is similar, although I am sure that there are unique differences.

What I have seen in baseball is that PG lists the "commits" to SAs based on PG rankings. Typically you'll see a drop off in performance after the top 5 or 6. I have personally interpreted that as those top 5 or 6 are solid players that the coaches actively recruited. the rest are good players who have potentially gotten in on their own. I would go to perfect game and see where you stack up. If you are better than the top few recruits, send email with video. if not, I'd still send video with email, but I would not expect coach support through admissions
