Is it worth reapplying?

I'm in college right now, and I just finished my first year. I'm a finance/accounting double major, and my overall GPA is 3.5. I know when you re-apply to academies it's recommended to be in a STEM major, but I'm wondering if I have a solid chance. At first I didn't want to reapply after getting rejected my senior year of high school in 2014, but the more I think about it, the more I want to go to an academy. Here are my stats:

3.7 GPA in high school
3.5 GPA in College
1910/2400 SAT
1330/1500 Math + Reading SAT

(I didn't mock doolie courses other than Calc 1 which I got a B+ in)

I know that academics are not the only factor into obtaining an appointment, but from a purely academic standpoint, can someone tell me if this is good enough? Please be brutally honest.

Good enough? I'd say that you're in the ballpark, but aren't by any means stellar.

The way I look at it, if you are going to reapply (and reset two years of college if appointed) you had better focus less on "am I good enough?" and more on "what can I do to make my (academic, physical, leadership) score(s) closer to perfect?"

That may be a bit more broad of an answer than you were hoping for, so here's this:

Do you have a solid chance? Yes

Could you have a much better chance? Yes

I was a "second timer" and I did okay.

I have a classmate that finished his BA at Cal Berkeley...and then came to USAFA...he served a great career!

It's really up to you: what are your goals, what is it you want to do? THAT should decide for you.

aauuppaa,

One more thought for you.... Remember that the SA's and many MOCs look quite favorably on re-applicants. It shows the kind of determination and drive that are necessary to thrive in that environment.

Note: State dependent of course, but I know of at least senior MOC that invariably reserves their Principal nomination for re-applicants; and has done so for years.

You should definitely re-apply. My DS was notified in April that he did not receive an appointment after his third attempt. On June 6, his MOC contacted him that he had been given an appointment, and he will fly to Colorado Springs next Wednesday. We have learned through this process that re-applicants are very highly regarded, and that the re-application experience is highly rewarding for a possible future cadet.
