My DD is Battalion Commander for her high school's JROTC program. She is finishing up her ROTC 4 year scholarship application this week. We are taking the day on Tuesday to go to her selected school, meet the ROO and do her PMS interview. Is participating in JROTC generally seen as a competitive edge in the process?

It seemed to be for DS who was awarded an ISR (Immediate Scholarship Reservation) for the NROTC scholarship. The regional CO was very interested in his JROTC leadership experience when he interviewed him. Not sure if your DD has applied for any SAs, but they are especially interested in prior leadership experience to include JROTC. Best of luck!

I believe the deadline dates have past and the applications for 2018 have closed.

Thanks for your response. She has applied for West Point and is 3Q and waiting on a decision. But, she is committed to be an Army officer so if WP does not work out, she will be pursuing it through ROTC.

Most definitely! It is a plus to have such leadership experience noted, especially Battalion CO.

I wouldn't say it's JROTC itself that provides an edge, but the leadership opportunities it provides. Sounds like your DD took advantage of those. Similar leadership experiences in other groups works just as well.
