for example if the candidate doesn't really have much room for improvement in grades or scores but their CFA wasn't the maximum. Would NAPS be of help to them?

Generally no. If the CFA score was passing then they can work on improving it while at the academy. I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule.

+ 1 kinnem.

Typically NAPS is offered to a candidate that needs a yr to get to the academic level of direct appointments. A 35 Superscore ACT, or 1490 SAT, top 7% of the graduating class, all APs/IBs with a strong cgpa with ECs up their ying yang, but a low CFA is not their ideal candidate for NAPS.

Look at many enlisted members, yes they may have been working on their collegiate degree, while they are AD, but for some it could be that they have not stepped back into an academic classroom environment for a couple of yrs. They have proven to the Navy that they have juggled AD life, physically and medically fit, but for the last 2 yrs they have been taking online classes while they are deployed, or night classes after their duty day. Maybe their major requires quantum mathematics or statistics, but not calc. They need that yr at NAPS to get the academic foundation.

As kinnem stated it is generally no, but there are exceptions to the rule.
