Is omission of a 3Q-letter for a 3Q candidate intentional?

Many have posted that USMA admissions attached a letter to their respective portals notifying them that they are triple qualified. Does that triple qualified letter always inform the candidate that he or she is now on the national waiting list? If so, does it make sense that candidates who have principal nominations, have clearly won their respective MOC slate, or have a Superintendent nomination do not receive that form letter because they are not on the national waiting list; rather, they are merely waiting for admissions to review their file and decide on an appointment?

The reason I ask is that my son is a re-applicant to USMA. Last year, he received the triple qualified letter. Our congressman gave the principal nomination to a re-applicant who immediately accepted and is doing well at WP. Thus, the triple qualified letter made sense last year, since my son was immediately placed on the national waiting list. This year, my son received an email from his RC congratulating him on his nomination, informing him that he was fully qualified, and stating that the admissions committee would soon decide on his appointment. No triple qualified letter in his portal this year. I do not know whether my son has a principal nomination this year, but I do know that something is different. There might be many reasons for the change this year, new RC, change in protocol, etc. That said, it occurred to me that if the triple qualified form letter always includes a provision that the candidate is on the national waiting list, it makes sense that certain candidates would never get a triple qualified letter.

Thoughts?

The process for a reapplicant is different. In most cases they will wait for the first semester college grades before they take any action. At best they got the transcript late December. Even if your application was completed early they may not have processed it yet.

My son received the 3Q letter in late October but also received an email from his RC on 1/9/17. The first line of the email was congratulatory so his hopes went bonkers. ;)

Nice email. I am impressed with his RC as he personally called his friend who was denied her waiver. It softened the blow as much as it could and gave her hope for next year.

Isn't it true that all nominees, including principal nominees, who are triple qualified are placed on the NWL until they receive an appointment?

My DS is a principal nominee to WP and has everything completed on portal including 7th semester transcripts now. He has not seen a 3Q notification yet.
When he asked his RC a month ago about being 3Qd he was told his application is in good standing and waiting on admissions.

I am a reapplicant in the GL region. All college students need two additional SOE from college professors to get 3Q'd. My RC didn't inform reapplicats of this. I had to email him because I heard from a friend who said he was asked for two more SOE from his field force rep. Hope this helps.

Are you from GL region by chance?
Got the same email from Captain Fatula from Great Lakes region. I was told by my FFR that it means I am considered qualified. It's a different RC than last year.

Awww the mysteries of WP admissions.......

Contact you RC for the most current and correct information.

The waiting part is very difficult. Continue with your Plan B for several reasons

Push Hard, Press Froward

This has me wondering. I was notified Friday I am a principal nominee and my MALO has told me that I had been moved to Candidate Status "Admissible" last fall. But I haven't received any 3Q letter. They are requesting my 7th semester transcript

Every candidate that is 3Q'd goes on a NWL.
Read this thread from last year and it may clear up your questions about the NWL: https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/the-dreaded-nwl.47090/#post-474008

Congrats on the P-nom!
Being 'Admissible' does not equate to being 3Q'd.
'Admissible' - a designation that indicates how competitive you are. "Admissible' candidates are the most competitive candidates.
3Q'd - Once your file is complete, it will go through the qualifying process (a review of the file by 2 RCs and 1 Admissions Committee member) to be 3'Qd.

Thank you! That's some really specific and helpful information that I have been needing.

Thanks for sharing this link. It really helps to clarify the dual uses of the term NWL. Based on your experience, do you think is it likely that candidates with LOAs or P-NOMs will spend less time on the NWL than candidates without them?
3Q'd LOAs ( with all conditions met) and P-noms will be pulled off the NWL once a nom comes in for them. There's no need to wait on offering those appointments. They still have to be voted on by admissions committee that meets every Tuesday and then the offer will be made.

How does the admissions board voting work? You're selected based on WCS and then voted on? Majority rules?

Also, when do the majority of appointments get mailed out?

To be honest, I don't know the exacts of how they vote, but in putting pieces together over the years, this is how I think it works. The RC really does the bulk of the work on the their candidates' files. They pretty much decide which of the files in their region go before the admissions committee. It's pretty easy to get their no brainer files through for an offer, but as time goes on, I would think that it gets more difficult for the committee to decide on who gets an offer. It gets complicated when they are waiting for medical waivers to come through, that can hold up an entire slate from getting any offers (unless there is a LOA on the slate). I'm sure the discussions get more in-depth when the number of offers left to give out are smaller. It is a complicated process, so please take all the above with a grain of salt.
The Admissions Committee meets every Tuesday. They will contact the appointee's MOC first to give them the chance to tell them of their appointment. The MOCs have 72 hours to have the exclusive rights of the announcement, but then after that, the FFR can tell the appointee. If the FFR doesn't tell the appointee, then they will learn of the appointment when they get the BFE in the mail or see it on their portal. It seems from years past that the portal update will occur last.
The majority of the appointments will go out now through the end of February/first of March.

On Friday my nomination showed up on my portal and I later called to find out it was a p-nom. On Friday I also received an email from my RC telling me to record videos of my pushups and pull-ups. I haven't uploaded my videos yet and my 7th semester transcript hasn't sent out yet. I have heard a rumor that appointments could start going out tomorrow. Could my videos and transcript prevent me from getting an appointment right now if I don't have them in by tomorrow? I know that I would just end up getting reevaluated next Tuesday but I have done a lot of waiting already. This forum has kept me on my toes since I completed my application way back in September!

Where did you hear that rumor, out of curiosity? What were your CFA scores if you don't mind me asking?

Your videos can prevent you because that's one of the Q's to be eligible for admissions. I believe that you can receive appointment without your 7th semester transcript though. Congrats on the P-Nom!!!
