DS has the choice of two different time slots, a month apart. He is available for either. Any opinions?

One could argue that being later would keep DS fresh in the mind of MOC/panel when its decision time. On the other hand, if he does well at the first session, he could be the standard by which everyone else is compared to. My recommendation - don't overthink it, sign up for whatever works best for him/you.

I have thought of both of your ideas [emoji23]. I actually think it a little odd to have them so far apart. I would think closer together would be easier for the panel [emoji848]

Dang, hard to choose. Our state hasn't even scheduled them yet. Said we would hear something end Oct. early Nov.
Good luck to him! Maybe, flip a coin?

Just do it is my name. Get ‘er done my email. So I guess I’m leaning earlier.

I would go with earlier.
If only 2 days, you get primacy recency effect for either date.
My DH would say, "Pull off the band aid!"

(Wow, a lot more relevant platitudes than I would have guessed.)

If nothing is going to change between those two dates that'll help your son then I'd get in there. (Fortune favors the Bold! Strike while the iron is hot! Time flies like an arrow but fruit flies like a banana!) But if he is waiting to hear about becoming captain of a winter sport or something similar then I might consider waiting.

Another question: is it acceptable to write “academy” occasionally in the essay? Verses Naval Academy each time? Both for the flow of the essay, and to conserve word count? I have no idea but he is to that point of fine tuning and I don’t know how to answer his question.

He could always use USNA for variety and brevity.
