Is this a failing score for CFA? (male)

I’m going to put my scores in the thread just to see what the consensus is on them.

BB Throw: 49ft
Shuttle Run: 8.1s
Pull-Ups: 13
Sit-Ups: 95
Push-Ups: 56
Mile: 7:24

I believe they are passing, however I was rejected last year based off of my CFA scores (my previous scores were A LOT worse) so I was just hoping that these scores would be sufficient this time around. I am worried most particularly about my BB Throw.

You should be good, everything else looks really solid

No doubt you passed.

If I were your ALO, I'd tell you to retake it.

Why?

52ft Basketball throw - BORDERLINE BAD...add 10' and then we'll talk
8 pull ups NICE!! I'm good with this
9.31s shuttle run - WARNING...this will be considered SLOW, it may/may not pass
55 sit ups - THIS IS VERY LOW and I believe, failing. The "average" that USAFA reports is 81...I've had candidates pass with 65+ but with better numbers elsewhere so it "balanced" out
43 push ups - Again, THIS IS VERY LOW. Is it failing by itself? MAYBE not but with the sit-up score, I believe they'll tag you with this one too
7.08 min. mile run - If all your other numbers were close to or at the "averages" then this is fine. With others not so good...this is marginal.

All that being said...I believe they will score this as "UNSAT" and they "may" give you a second chance. They're under no obligation to do so, but recently they have been doing that.

Just my two-cents.

Hi Steve! I saw this great advice and was wondering if you could do the same for me. Here are my scores. This is my second test:

BB: 64
Pull-Ups: 12
SR: 9.1
Sit-Ups: 54 (I really struggle with this)
Push-ups: 75
Run: 7:44

What do you think?

Okay, IMHO...which is all it is...

64ft Basketball throw - It's "okay." I'd like at least 5 more feet. By itself, not a problem.
12 pull ups NICE!! No problem here!
9.1s shuttle run - WARNING...this will be considered SLOW, it may/may not pass especially with the low situp number.
54 sit-ups - THIS IS VERY LOW and I believe, failing. The "average" that USAFA reports is 81...I've had candidates pass with 65+ but with better numbers elsewhere so it "balanced" out
75 push-ups - CRUSHED!
7:44 min. mile run - If all your other numbers were close to or at the "averages" then this is "marginal/okay." With others not so good...this is marginal at best.

Bottom line. I don't think your scores will pass. The situps concern me the most. If EVERYTHING else was at or just above the "averages" then fine...probably be passed. But with a "slower than average" shuttle (by a full second), a mile over 1 minute higher than average...and then the situps...If it were me, I'd not submit these, work like a maniac, do several practices, and then when I know I'm better, do it again.

Just my humble opinion which, along with $1.29 here in AZ will get you an XL Polar Pop at Circle K.

One thing I would throw out there for all the applicants is to understand that the PFT that you will take here once per semester as well as all of the training sessions put on by your squadron will make the CFA look like a walk in the park. I did not physically prep nearly enough and the altitude here takes no prisoners. You should all be enjoying your final year in high school and all the fun things that go with that, but DO NOT think that your physical training ends once you pass your CFA. Your future cadre are already training in anticipation of your arrival, don't fall behind.

Just thought I'd mention something about the sit-ups. Are you following the instructions in the guide? Elbows just need to touch the midpoint or higher on the thigh with the fingertips on the shoulders. I just wanted to mention this since my DS struggled with these at first and he was doing full sit-ups touching his chest to his thighs. Once he corrected his form to the instructions his number jumped by 20 reps. Also, make sure you have someone hold your ankles down, it makes a big difference.

I heard it said that:

1. A CFA is an assessment
2. A PRT is a test.

Fail a test and you’re in deep kimchi. With an assessment, it’s about your results reflecting your commitment to fitness coming in and if you’ll struggle (with fitness) once you’re at the academies. Keep in mind the PRT minimum pass time in the 1.5 mile run is tougher than it is in the fleet..
