Is USMMA ok?

I am a candidate for USMMA and am a bit concerned with a couple of the threads. The one with funding was concerning whether it will be around. And then a report about disrepair of the dock area. Are these things to be worried about or not really?

New $15m pier construction should start next spring.

We shared some of your concerns when our DS was considering the school a few years ago, particularly when comparing USMMA with some better funded schools. If you are serious about attending, you should visit Kings Point, and do an overnight if possible. Once we spent time on campus, we realized what a great school it is and what a gorgeous campus. Many of the deferred maintenance items are scheduled for improvement in the very near future.

I really want to visit, but it may not be until wrestling season is over in February. It is crazy right now.

My son didn't visit until March and was able to spend the night but only because the coach arranged it as school had just started back and the school itself was not having overnighters yet.

Is there a certain time frame that they do overnight visits?

It's pretty flexible. Just about anytime your junior or senior year except during USMMA trimester finals and the week before finals weeks. Check with admissions to make sure. Ao, if you are interested in wrestling at KP, you should contact the wrestling coach. They have a great wrestling program!

My son did an overnight at the end of August before school started. The facilities are as bad as everyone describes them but my son felt that the quality of the students and faculty he interacted with and the esprit de corps of the regiment more than make up for that. The options available upon graduation are a big plus for him also.

Ditto -- we were very concerned about the facilities until we actually went there. It is a shame that the facilities have suffered, but there is so much more to KP -- and apparently money is on its way. A visit to the campus would definitely make things clearer to you.

You can apply get an acceptance and then visit. it is not the best way. When my son did his visit there were a few students who had already been accepted there. The visit helped them finialize their decision. A few were visiting multiple East Coast schools.

My DS was accepted and did his visit after wrestling season the end of March. He had visited 2 other schools and had planned on going to one other. When he got home from Kings Point, he cancelled the final visit and made plans for life at USMMA. He is a B split and stll at sea, he returns to Kings Point next week and so will be a bit behind going into this tri-mester.

Best of Luck
