My DS received an ISR and signed his paperwork in July. Can anyone shed some light on this process? Will his package be "blessed" at the first board? His medical is complete and qualified via his USNA application. Can we assume his scholarship will be placed at his number 1 school? He wants to apply ED to his first choice. Any info would be helpful as this is such a mystery program.

I can't say I'm familiar with ISR, but for ROTC scholarships I always recommend NEVER applying ED. ED locks you in to that school and you can't assume that's the school that will be chosen. You definitely cannot assume he will be placed at his #1 school. That's why they asked for a list. They'll do their best, but there are absolutely no guarantees.

proudofmyboy: Congratulations to your son. I don't have first hand knowledge on ISR but remember several candidates in the last year posting on this forum. Use the search function to see what you can find.

I found this on google: http://www.cnrc.navy.mil/publications/Directives/1533 4C .pdf
"School Choice. Applicants must fill out five school choices including one state choice. ISR candidates shall understand that school choice is not guaranteed and they must independently compete for school entrance. Inform all ISR applicants that applying earlier in the program year improves their chances of receiving their top school choices. NROTC unit placement is determined after scholarship selection, and is conducted on a "first-come, first-serve" basis. NROTC units at schools that enjoy high popularity close out early. "

I recieved an ISR last year. My paperwork wasn't sent until the 2nd board so that is when my school was chosen. I received my first choice school, but keep in mind that there is always the possibility of not getting your first choice. However, getting an ISR endorsement typically lets one get thier first (At least that's what my NROTC coordinator said). Congrats on the ISR!

Thanks...Since his paperwork was sent well before the first board we hope for confirmation early Oct so he can apply ED to RPI.
