It's In The "Back Of My Mind"

It's in the back.....

Guys, First remember this was your kids (young adults) goal, not a dream. To borrow line the movie Rudy, "Dreamers are not doers." They busted their humps off to get where they are at now. You can be very proud of each and everyday they are there, pursuing their goal. Of getting a top flight education, being the best and the brightest in America. Remember the end game a commissioned officer and defending freedom, which is an awsome thing to do. There are not a lot of young people in this great country, who do not want to do what your young men and women want to do. They want leave it up to the young men and woman who have answered a higher calling.
I envy your children, because they they the right choice, the right decision.

God Bless each and everyone of them and the parents of this Plebes

God Speed as well,

RGK

Okay, I'm going into cheerleader mode. To my son:

"Rah-Rah-you can do it."

"I'm so proud of you, and I'll see you sooner than you think."

"I'm going to start shopping for my All Academy Ball gown, so don't worry about me."

I'm going for the no tears approach when saying goodbye. The waterworks will start promptly upon him turning to join his company. I have a whole list of personal goals to keep me busy this summer, so I can just get over the hump of despair.

So as you can read, today I have a grip on myself. Tomorrow I may be on here saying, "What was I thinking cheerleader mode. My baby is going into the military 1,500 miles away :frown:." It's definitly ebbing and flowing here too, but I guess these "times" are our Semper Gumby pre-lims. GO BEARS...rahhh!

Good plan Tammy! I'll say it again....the weeks just prior to R-Day were MUCH harder than the actual day of reporting in. The excitement in the air, the camaraderie, the anticipation of being part of something bigger than oneself....all these made saying "see you soon" much easier than I ever thought possible!

haha these last few days have been a roller coaster of being excited at what I'm about to do and then thinking "wait a minute, what am I getting myself into here (for swab summer)." But the day will come, and my fellow classmates and I will meet all of the challenges when they do.

Officer- I'm also in Echo Company. :thumb:

Haven't been online in a couple of days...we are already in transit. Coming East early has really been helpful in the "pollen" department for me. Packing up at home was stressful, but now being with extended family and seeing him having a blast at Hershey Park, has been so nice! We are having a family Bon Voyage party Friday night and then heading to CT on Saturday. Looking forward to the long drive with just hubby, swab and me! See everyone soon!

Almost there...

Well, we made it to Williamsburg on Wednesday and then to Maryland to see family yesterday. Its Saturday already and we are packing up to make the last leg... We'll be in New London this afternoon!

See you all tomorrow.

A Father’s Pride (an Ode to my son (and the Class of 2014)) - part II

A Father’s Pride (An Ode to My Incoming Cadet)
By Argos
5 May 2010

My son grew up strong and willful, but filled with love and joy
He had a dream of grand significance, my stoic little boy
Service was his calling; to protect and to defend
The Constitution and our country; a story without end

The dream came upon him slowly, building all the while
Knowing there was a goal in mind, he went the extra mile
The dream continued to evolve with each and every day
A path was set before him, and he knew he found his way

Soon the paperwork was submitted, but unbearable the wait
Then to see his dreams now realized I watched his fears abate
Reporting day is weeks away, in part I start to mourn
But I knew this day would soon be here from the day that he was born

My little boy has become a man; he sought the high road out
For to seek to be his very best is what it’s all about
His peers remain unfocused. His path is crystal clear
Devotion to duty, to protect all that he holds dear

For him to take the challenge, and not settle for something less
Takes hard work and dedication, and courage without redress
The defense of our coast and homeland, the battle must be won
And for the young man who is my son, his story has just begun

A Father’s Pride (An Ode to My Incoming Cadet) - Part II

Ahoy, ye swabs …
Long you have struggled since that sunny June afternoon
Training, marching, training, it came upon you all too soon.
Your childhood was taken that day but filled with something more
Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty now fills you to the core.

Your rank and file has marched the grounds on each and every day
And aboard the Eagle you fared the seas and started on your way.
The sea trials brought it all to a head and put you to the test
And now with boards upon your shoulders you are ready to join the rest

Always ready, you are men and women who stand before us strong
You are no longer little boys and girls. You are where you belong.
You are shipmates, part of the crew, a part of the ‘Long Blue Line’
Nevertheless, I could not be prouder of that stoic little boy of mine.

Class of 2014 you are now cadets, go forth and lead the way
For those of us who love you, know we are so proud of you this day.
The learning has just begun, and there is much ahead for all
There no doubt about success for those who heard the call.

Always remember that we love you as you head out into the world
We will always be watching you and waiting as the sails are unfurled.
Defend our coastline, protect our homeland, and do so without fear.
And when you safely dock once more, we will be waiting for you here.
