It's my dream...

Hmnnn...you haven't mentioned anything about handwriting, arithmetic or leadership positions in your recess group. Also, have you singed up for your ACT's yet? As for cable, they just signed up for the new DISH All American 250 package which now includes reruns of all the old Captain Kangaroo episodes.

I'm in first grade and it has been my dream my entire life to attend the academy. What are my chances? And, do they have cable?

Focus on being a line leader at recess or potty breaks. Get into the habit of counting using your fingers, you'll always use this method going forward. And, get used to waiting, you have 10-11 more years to practice that.

Academies like things you can count (GPA, leadership positions, awards, community service hours). Start by counting the numbers 1-10. You seem a little behind the power curve, but there's still some time!

Make sure you also work on those leadership skills too! Are you showing leadership by eating all of your veggies in front of your younger siblings? Making your bed in the morning?
~ Making your bed is really important because you will want that skill to be absolutely perfect when you get there. It is not something you should shirk if you want to be the best at USNA your plebe year.

Volunteering also is great....how about helping Mom and Dad put your dishes in the sink, or letting the puppy outside to go potty instead of watching it sit at the door?
~ You can't start early enough on volunteer hours, you might even be behind the power curve right now.

Great thread!

Can't believe no one has mentioned the importance of athletics.

How many pull ups can you do? What's your basketball throw? Time in the two mile? You tube is loaded with tutorials.

For sure I'd gun for varsity letters in at least two sports. I'm thinking kickball and dodgeball, although there's nothing wrong with four square, especially if you're team captain. If you're homeschooled find a club sport. If there's none to your liking put together your own "pick up and smear" team. Shoot! Start a league.

I'm way behind then. I'm finishing up second grade. Bummer.

Don't be! Need I remind you that USNA loves re-applicants or in your case, someone whose had at least one year of advanced crayoning as well as those STEM classes in addition and subtraction. You will need teacher recommendations and those second grade teachers have been historically really tough (hint: a shiny red apple really helps!).

Keep up on your athletes like hopscotch and strive for a leadership position on the neighborhood team. Finally, and as noted by PIMA above, keep up with those EC's particularly with Mom and those chores. We can get to building character and integrity by not annoying the living hell out of your older brother as well as not throwing a hissy fit about everything you didn't get for Christmas last week but all of those will be on next weeks lesson plan.

For now, watch good cartoons, drink your milk and get to bed on time. We wish you well in your pursuit.

I've installed a pull-up bar in the kitchen doorway, but my parents keep clotheslining themselves. Also, I was home pre-schooled, anyone have experience with that?

Tot's State... home pre-schooled... you're killing me Smalls. :)

Great advice. Do you think I can get a waiver for bed wetting?

Maplerock, you don't have a chance. Sorry to be blunt, but USNA Admissions has already filled the class of 2033. Although you didn't make the cut, your next door neighbors, twin bothers Remus and Romulus, have their LOAs in hand and, in a recent tweet, the Donald promised a presidential or vice presidential nomination (he anticipates that Ivanka and Donald Junior will hold those positions in 2o28). Unfortunately for you, your parents are mere mortals, but Remus and Romulus were conceived by either the god Mars or the demi-god Hercules. When the twins were born, they were left to die, but they were saved by a series of miraculous interventions by Admiral McRaven and Roger Staubach. A football coach of legendary stature, Niumatalolo, and his wife, She-Wolf, fostered Romulus and Remus and raised them to lead the Wolfpack junior football team. The twins have proven that they have supernatural football skills. Remus and Romulus are recognized for their leadership on and off the gridiron. They are superior to any mere mortal who has ever played the game.

Although only six years old, they have jointly built the Wolfpack into the premier youth football program in the country, exceeding any high school program in Texas, California, Alabama, Oklahoma and Florida. Remus and Romulus are already better than any high school player in the history of the game. I am not related to Remus and Romulus, nor do I know them personally, but I do know they are preeminent among the feral football players of the Wolfpack and ancient football mythography. The legend of Remus and Romulus encapsulates Vince Lombardi's, the Gipper's, and Niumatalolo's ideas of football, the game's origins, and moral values.
In addition to their football prowess, Remus and Romulus have maxed out the CFA (they ate the basketball--and the test administrator--after finishing the mile in under four minutes) and their first attempt at the ACT resulted in composite scores of 33 and 34, respectively. (They intend to take the ACT several more times to improve their scores.) In their free time they volunteer at the International Wolf Center, leading the pack. They are natural leaders, although they prefer solitude. Their only downside is that they have been known to consume the occasional goat.

Long story short: Remus and Romulus are gods among boys and men when it comes to their football talents. They were born, not made. God favored them and gave them the skills he did not give you. They are blue chip recruits. Considering that the best you can hope for is a QNS letter, you should have solid plans b-d in place.

Maplerock.. Does your DM and DF know that you are up late making a mockery of this thread? But seriously, are you even 3Q? Quiet, Quick and Quirky? If so circle YES........................Yes.

This is great. Thanks for the laughs all.
