I haven’t seen any mention of this so far and I’ve used this forum for SA and ROTC stuff quite awhile. Recently, I was honored to receive a J-100 Character-In-Leadership scholarship.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what that is; Gen Goldfein, before he retired, wanted a scholarship program for AFJROTC cadets that would provide more diversity to the officer corps.

Out of all of the AFJROTC units in the nation each Unit was able to nominate at least one person, sometimes more dependent on the size of the unit. 200 cadets got an interview; 100 were given the scholarship. This scholarship includes full tuition, 75% of the normal HSSP Type 1 Book stipend, housing(pending offer), and fees.

I’ve been awarded the scholarship and I’ve filled out all documentation in my WINGS portal. My DODMERB is complete because of my SA applications. What do I do next?

What do you do next?

No clue.

But - CONGRATULATIONS on the scholarship award!!!!!!!!! That's friggin' AWESOME!

Thanks! I feared I’d get that response. What do normal AFROTC HSSP recipients do after they get their scholarship?

So, far, we've accepted the scholarship and loaded a copy of the acceptance letter from the university my DS intends to attend. He is working on his DodMERB, but he had an interruption with baseball and work commitments. It's on the to-do list to finish for tomorrow. I know there are other steps that will come, but those are the first steps.

Make sure you have your original copies of your birth certificate and SS card. There’s some forms for the HSSP cadets in the wings that need to be printed and turned in on orientation day. Register for ROTC and that’s about it ?

Go in WINGS and look at the checklist that you followed doing the regular scholarhship application. New items will be added to that.
Congrats on the scholarship! Never heard of it but then almost no schools around us have any form of JROTC...though OF COURSE next year, our HS is starting a NJROTC program...my DD gave them the idea 3 years ago...

WINGS has to approve the major when you upload teh acceptance letter.

Reminder to all that , AFROTC cadets have to compete twice to get a commission: Once when they earn a scholarship, then again after their AS200 year to continue in the program. It's cold blooded. This year 70% of AS200s were deselected. Consider that risk when accepting your USAF "scholarship"

Log into your Wings portal. Then, click on the Accept Scholarship. You'll have to load your Letter of Acceptance from the university. The major will have to be approved by tile.

Thank you all for the responses. My major and acceptance has already been approved. Now I’m just looking for the medical tab but since I’ve already done DODMERB, my technician told me it won’t show up for me.

I also filled out all the initial documentation in the tab, it’s just pending. I guess now I just wait 😂. That’s been hard for me all these years, but I’ll try to enjoy the break.
