For those who attended CVW (parents and candidates), especially those departed this morning, how was your experience? What do you think when you see the firsties wearing their future uniforms based on their service selection on "warrior friday", and soon to be SWOs even wearing the ballcap of their ships they just picked Thursday night?

Are you motivated and looking forward to your time living on the yard, or do you think this is not for you?

Hope ok to add to add related question. My son if attending CVW Feb 23-25. Does anyone have a son or daughter flying to BWI for weekend who would want to share a Shuttle? Also open to suggestions for best option for transportation to/from BWI? Thanks

We rented a car when we went last year. It came in handy for two reasons, although our hotel was close to the Yard, the program has parents coming and going en masse from the Navy Marine Corp Stadium. Also, while your D/s or D/d is there, it affords you the opportunity to go out exploring. The new National Harbor area outside of D.C. is awesome. And Baltimore's harbor area is pretty cool too. BWI and each of the other places I mentioned are 20-30 minutes away if you drive against rush hour traffic times.

When my son went for his CVW, he used the Super Shuttle Service to and from BWI to USNA. I made the purchase online with his flight info and all he had to do was present the receipt at their airport counter and he was all set. It was easy and I believe it was the suggested transportation in his CVW email.

Super shuttle is easy to use. They are familiar with USNA drop off/pick up locations. It is easy to find at BWI. More than likely they will run into some other CVWers and make some friends along the way.

I just got home from attending the January session. I shadowed a plebe on the crew team and I went to several of his classes. If you are considering any service academy I highly suggest you attend CVW. Going in I was more in favor of West Point but now I'm on the fence after seeing the entirety of student life at USNA.

I attended the CVW in January and I can honestly say that it was the most amazing experience of my life. I was with a plebe from 7th company and was able to pick his brain for what the academy life will be like. I wasn't too sure if I wanted to dedicate my life to the military before, but after seeing the amazing combination of academics, athletics, and leadership potential, I am %100 certain that I want to become a midshipman. All that is left right now is to complete my application and apply for a nomination. Seeing the 1/C midshipman in their future uniforms was very cool and I can definitely see myself in their shoes later on.

Sorry...once you got bitten by the bug there is no turning back! Best of luck in all your future endeavors!

This is EXACTLY why CVW is so highly recommended. It will help you making the right decision. Best of luck!!!

Talk about taking advantage of trips...:)
I hope you didn't miss the midshipmen panel (one from each year) admissions set up for Q&A for the parents on Friday. Did they also have a parent or two talking about their journey with their DD/DS? What about the tour of the academic departments in the afternoon? ;)

I loved the midshipmen's panel! The plebe was prior enlisted, 3rd class was some perfect specimen of Carolina corn fed beautiful blond blue eyed tank of a young man that looked like he'd end up a seal or special ops for Marine Corp Ground, 2nd class was this extremely impressive young woman who wore her varsity crew sweater and is now like second in command of the brigade as a firstie, and the first class guy was very squared away and was the quietest of the four. The parent was the dad of a plebe who surpassed all of the requirements and then some but got sent to foundation school first... dad still seemed perplexed by that. But his message was you never know until you know and just because you are a star on paper with multiple noms doesn't mean you'll get in. It was a great opportunity to learn about the Foundation, the schools, and possible foundation scholarships.

When we toured the departments it was more of a quick walk through and classes were all in session so the most we got was looking in through the windows. Seeing them all hustling and bustling changing classes is very impressive. It sort of made me feel like there should be more security around if they let me in! Very high level military! LOL

Since we did CVW first, when she was a junior, I felt totally comfortable sending her off to Summer Seminar on her own. If I hadn't been there, I would have escorted her up there for the week. We have since gone to two admissions presentations here in Florida and one in Annapolis over winter break..... can't get enough of hearing about it! It's almost like visiting the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London and they keep telling you someday if you are very lucky, we'll let you touch them! ⚓

I know right?!!!! I was a cheerleader in high school, old habits die hard! If she does get appointed, I feel sorry for our Blue Gold parents club! You should see the USNA fingernail art pages on Pinterest! LOL

Most of all I want to say thank you to you, NavyHoops, and CaptMJ for helping me maintain my sanity during this anxious waiting time. I think I was more patient in my third trimester not knowing when I'd go into labor!

Just trying to be helpful in this nerve racking process.... and GO NAVY!!!

My son did the January CVW and I signed him up in advance for super shuttle. Very easy and convenient. There ended up being several other kids going to the USNA on same shuttle. Also picked him up for the return back to airport.
