As a parent of the recently graduated Class of 09, just wanting to check how your graduate is doing in the job market. Mine has just been "playing around" looking for jobs knowing he was going to take July off. Just wanted to get a take on what is currently out there for our graduates.

Not my child, but spoke with an 09 Grad and she was sailing her first time under her license on the Liberty Ship John Brown as a volunteer (tradition :thumb:). Getting a job with Kirby. Several other mids I spoke with are going to work for Shell Oil.

I have one story so far.

Graduate this year got a job working on a tanker between Alaska and Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. 2 weeks on 2 weeks off schedule. Starting salary of 90K per year.

I understand he will become a resident of Alaska and will not have to pay state income tax there.

Just three more years for my son!

Kpmom...I know who you are talking about. I've heard some real interesting stories about her being on watch and the steering going out! Thanks. I know two graduates are starting at Otto Candies and another at Penn Maritime.

LOL Wolf! Yep pretty good story about first time on license and stearing going out  Just shows that KP prepares these men and women well!!!! she's actually writing up a little bit about it for me so we can publish it in the mid-atlantic newsletter.

The story

Sounds very interesting! Would love to read the bit. Can you share the link to the newsletter when its published?
