It was pretty poor timing considering the active duty staff corps O5 selection list came out a few days prior to this article. The Doc certainly deserves to come in at that rank, but was a bit of a kick in the pants for the many who didn’t get selected. (O5 selection in the Navy Medical Corps has been very low over the last several years...around 30% at times)

This is inspiring. As a 53 yr old optometrist I will look into Army Reserves. I have 3 USMA sons, so I can't go Navy.

More power to him, we need to get out of the mentality that 60 is 'old' and people that age cant contribute. The age limit for commercial pilots has been raised to 65 and Flag Officers can serve up to age 67; during Desert Storm I served with a Reserve Doctor who was 69. If they can do the job, let them.
