Good afternoon all,

I am a current Class of 2025 application the the United States Naval Academy. I received a LOA in my portal on 12/24 and am missing only a nomination. I have applied to my congresswoman and both senators and did not receive a nomination from them. Although, I went back to their office and hand delivered my LOA with a resume and kindly asked for a reconsideration for a nomination but their slots have already been filled up this year. I have also applied for a VP nomination as of 1/2/2021. With this I have applied to all possible sources for a nomination.

Just yesterday, I found out that my Senior Army JROTC instructor can nominate me to the Naval Academy because my unit is a honor with distinction. We will mail in my nomination to the academy as soon as the paperwork is filled out.

I was doing some research reading through old threads and found out that only 20 ROTC nominations are given out every year. They only take the top and most qualified 20 candidates and do not even fill up the slots every year. To my understanding for the LOA, any nomination works but am unsure now because of this rule.

Will my LOA from the academy and nomination from my JROTC instructor still 100 percent guarantee my offer of appointment to the academy.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

In the same boat with an ROTC Nomination to USMA. On the letter it says "I have reserved a cadetship for you contingent upon receipt of a nomination"

So yes you are still guaranteed an appointment, given you fulfill all other requirements.

As far as I understand there are several "pools" of applicants that kids can be selected from, each with their own restrictions and limitations, and many applicants fall into more than one category. So I'm pretty sure everyone with an LOA is in their own seperate "LOA Category" and don't count towards the 20 ROTC appointments.

From browsing the forums it seems like nominations can and often are shuffled around, especially for LOA holders.

I'd focus on making sure you get checkmarks on every part of your app and getting ready for plebe summer/USNA.

There are way more than 20 candidates who come in with an ROTC nom. This category includes anyone who is currently in Navy ROTC (and applied for the nom) and any JROTC that qualify to nominate JROTC students. I am not sure how many qualify in this category but it is well over 20, probably in the couple of hundreds if I had to guess. USNA can only charge up to 20 appointments to these slots. USNA did not dictate in your LOA that you had to receive a certain type of nom, you just had to have one. The JROTC one qualifies. Get the paperwork in immediately and let the process complete. And yes, USNA will move noms around as the class is formed. They can only move those who been offered appointments around to nom sources you are qualified for. Since you did not receive a MOC nom or qualify for Presidential nom sources then you will be able to be charged to the NROTC, VP or even Supts category. USNA could move you around amongst those or remain with an ROTC nom.

There is a lot of shuffling around with these noms. so with that LOA in your corner I strongly believe they will find a nom for you as long as you get your SAI to submit that nom. Good Luck!!!

I have already gotten everything in. The last thing left to fulfill for my LOA is my nomination.
