Firstly, Welcome to SAF. It took me two tries to pass the CFA (mainly because of the basketball throw...) I'll tell you some stuff that might help ease the tension in the case you have to try again. If you're applying to USMMA, unlike the Big 3, your CFA is graded on a PASS/FAIL and that's it. You have to pass all of the school's minimums In order to get a pass. What are the minimums? Only USMMA knows and I believe they change from year to year. They don't tell you intentionally because they want you to put your best foot forward (As you rightfully should.)

You'll need to work on your Shuttle Run and 1 Mile run. Try to get under 7 minutes for the mile and 9.5s for the times. Good Job on Pullups and the Ballthrow. You can do more pullups than I can do. for now...;)

An acquaintance of mine in my unit, who's a personal trainer, gave me a very simple workout plan dedicated to my passing the CFA. I unfortunately did not use as much as I would've liked. (He emailed it to me shortly after I took it and/passed the second time.) If I ever get around to digging it up and you get enough posts on this forum I'll send it to you in a PM. You can try it out for your self and see what works for you.

It'll be quite the nail biter to do the CFA again with 7 Days till the deadline for the class of '22. Best of luck to passing on the first go.

RussianSquid: Here are the details on the PRT from USMMA 2021 class. Not sure if they'll change for 2022. Best of luck...

2. PHYSICAL READINESS TEST (PRT)

The physical readiness test consists of three graded events: curl-ups, push-ups and the 1.5 mile run. The proper procedures for each event are described below.

Curl-Ups
1. The member will begin by lying flat on back with knees bent, heels about 10 inches from buttocks. Arms shall be folded across and touching chest with palms of hands touching upper chest and shoulders (thumbs touching clavicle (collarbone). [Figure 1]
2. Feet shall be flat on the deck and held by partner’s hands. If preferred the partner may use their knees (on the side of the feet only) in addition to their hands to secure member’s feet.
3. Member curls upper body up, touching elbows to thighs (anywhere between the knees and hips) while keeping hands held firmly against the chest and shoulders. [Figure 2]
4. After touching elbows to thighs, member returns to starting position ensuring lower back and shoulder blades touch the deck. [Figure 1]
5. Member may rest in either the up or down position.
6. Curl-ups are repeated correctly as many times as possible in two minutes.
Push-Ups
1. Member will begin in leaning rest position on the deck so that body forms a straight line through the shoulders, back, buttocks, and legs. Weight is supported only with the toes and palm of hands.
2. Arms are to be straight with palms flat on the deck, directly under the shoulders or slightly wider than shoulder width. [Figure 3]
3. Member shall lower entire body until arms bend to at least 90 degrees while keeping shoulders, back, buttocks, and legs aligned and parallel to the deck. [Figure 4]
4. Member pushes entire body upward and returns to starting position ensuring arms are fully extended, without locking elbows. [Figure 3]
5. Member may rest only in up position maintaining a straight line with shoulders, back, buttocks, and legs.
6. Push-ups are repeated correctly as many times as possible in two minutes.
1.5 Mile Run
Event consists of running or walking 1.5 miles as quickly as possible on a flat and solid surface track or outdoor course. Any combination of running or walking is allowed to complete the event.
PHYSICAL READINESS TEST COMMISSIONING STANDARDS
PRT COMMISSIONING STANDARDS:
Male Age 17-19: Curl-ups - 62, Push-ups - 51, 1.5 mile run - 11:00
Female Age 17-19: Curl-ups - 62, Push-ups - 24, 1.5 mile run - 13:30

RussianSquid has a long time before he must worry about taking the PRT. For now, it's time to bring up that mile time. Start running a lot, and the stamina will soon come to you. If you're applying to the Class of 2022 you don't have much time but you could still improve a bit. Good job on the pull ups though.

Welcome @TheRussianSquid . As @Jbmz mentions, it is Pass/Fail. Your portal should reflect that if you've submitted your CFA scores. @Kierkegaard has good advice to bring up the mile time. For your reference, here are the USMA averages for males:

USMMA Average :
Basketball Throw: 67
Pull-Ups: 9
Shuttle Run: 9.1 sec
Sit-Ups: 72
Push-Ups: 54
1-Mile Run: 6:43

How long should it take for the portal to update and show whether I passed or failed the cfa?

TheRussianSquid. I am 100% sure this CFA score is FAIL. As male, you have to come under 8 minutes on a mile run. This is the case even if you did 18 pull ups, 100 ft basketball throw, and 100 push ups and sit ups. Your push ups and sit ups are also weak. If this was a female CFA, it is fantastic! Please work on your run time to 7 minutes or less. You can do it!

The question that I have is, what if you are the only Nom for a district and you have similar results? Is it still a fail?

Two separate issues. Even if you are the only nomination from a district, you will not be made an offer of admission if you do not meet other qualifications for admission, one of which is a passing CFA. The only possibility is if they really want you, they can offer a Letter of Assurance contingent on you submitting a passing CFA by X date. This situation would be rare but it has happened.

You have 2 chances to pass the CFA. Less than 8 minutes for the mile run is the point of no return for male. If you come over that second time even with max scores on all the other events, Academies will close your file. This is not clearly stated on the CFA Exams but you will know when you are asked to do it second time. Your Regional Advisors will also ask you to exceed that mile run when you retake.

Even if you have everything including DODMERB Qualified, 5 Nominations, 4.0 Unweighted GPA with 36/1600 scores, Academies will close your file if you fail CFA second time. It is brutal but that’s the current strict standard and regulation by Academies. I don’t think there is any waiver for this. There are 4 things you must qualify that are run independently. That’s CFA, DODMERB, Nomination, and your App file with Academics and ECs. And you get scored for CFA, ECs, Academics.

You can control the CFA with early practice. Give yourself 3 Months for the practice. But if you fail the CFA, that’s it. You can reapply next year if you wish to become a reapplicant with a better CFA and overall package. Only thing you cannot control are the DODMERB or the Nomination outcome. You just have to be medically correct and be the best in your district or in your state to get the MOC slate.

I personally think getting the Noms and DODMERB qualification is half the battle to your journey to SAs. Good luck to you!

You always want to try and perform above average. My son was right in the middle of football season and the main focus was running 30 yard sprints and bulking up using heavy weights not exactly training for a good CFA score but he passed. Below are the documented averages in the CFA Instructions for a male. Good luck "TheRussianSquid" Keep working hard you will get there.
BB throw-67ft
Pull-ups -9
shuttle -9.1 seconds
Modified situps -72
pushups - 54
mile run 6.43

Yeah no, everything is fine but the mile run is a no-go. At that speed, he won't pass the PRT. And they expect people to get slower over the years, not faster. Track team aside, you will run slower your 1/C year than you did as a plebe.

The mile run is not an automatic no go. There are some at or above 9 that did not fail. That being said it is a poor mile time and needs to be worked on

That is not the case at USMMA. From what I understand you are able to swim instead of run once you are in the fleet.
