I just received an invitation to attend a CVW, I am a Junior and recently submitted my NASS application.

I am have a few questions. How and why was I invited? Does this mean that I have a better chance of being admitted to USNA? What does being accepted to CVW mean?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm really curious too. I've never heard that before.

I got that too. It says in the middle that"Participating in this program does not affect your Summer Seminar application in any way." I would think that it would help with gaining valuable insight into the admission process.

Like you, I received a CVW invitation my junior year a few days/weeks after my NASS application. When I visited in February, there were many other juniors as well. USNA probably invited you, me, and the other juniors based on our academics. They probably thought that we were competitive applicants. Maybe we had good test score or a good gpa. To answer your last two questions, I don't think that a CVW invitation will help you get appointed to USNA. I didn't even get accepted to NASS and was not able to get a nomination to USNA. I think CVW is used more as a chance for juniors to follow a mid around (being a "drag") and lets you see if the academy life is fit for you. Also, it gives you a chance to talk to mids and get some help on the admissions process. I'm still an applicant so I may not be true about everything I say. Just thought that I should let you know about my experience...

My son applied to 3 summer seminars, accepted to 2 but not NASS. He received CVW invitation, accepted and attended, then within about a month received an LOA and then another month received an appointment. This was all in the Fall of his Senior year. He accepted an appointment to USMA. If you can go you really should try. It could be to your benefit.

It will not "help" you gain admittance to Summer Seminar or USNA. More than likely you submitted your Summer Seminar application and based upon that data they have decided that you have the potential to be a competitive candidate. Don't read anything into. Embrace the experience, ask questions and really evaluate if USNA is the right place for you.

Completely agree with Navy Hoops. If you are interested in the Naval Academy at all go to everything you are invited to. The other thing is that you are able to make an impression during cvw and NASS so it doesn't hurt. DS got his LOA Dec 22nd and appointment letter Jan 22nd.Also look at NROTC. Good luck
