Hello all!

Glad to have signed up as I've actually learned a lot from reading through these posts. However, one question I have remains unanswered. I've basically passed all requirements for contracting with ROTC at my college. However, I had to drop a course which put me at 11 hours (1 hour below full time). Can anyone answer me if this will affect my contracting? I'm a 19 cadet, and they really need 19's. Everyone in the military science department enjoys me and I've passed my PT test today (woohoo!!) only problem is I was told the 11 hours might be an issue. Someone please tell if this actually is. As if it is, then I would have to go to basic and miss my next semester which would draw me back immensely. Please let me know. Thank you :)

Only your Cadre can answer this question. Any other answers, including mine, unless from one of the AROTC Cadre that post on here occasionally is speculative.

Are you contracting as a scholarship or non scholarship cadet? Are you contracting for an immediate start of benefits or to start the benefits/stipend in the fall semester/qtr? The contract indicates you must be a 'full time student'. The contract (DA Form 597-3) has a 'Date education commences' so this might be to your benefit if the date is after this semester/qtr when you are full time.

Link to view the DA Form 597-3 or 597-1 http://www.apd.army.mil/ProductMaps/PubForm/DAForm.aspx

Edit: The two AROTC Cadre that post here occasionally are @clarksonarmy and @MohawkArmyROTC

Ah okay. Unfortunately I was not really given an answer. More of a "don't worry about it you'll be fine" but I'm still terrified. I believe I'm doing a two year scholarship, however I am trying to figure out what I can do if there is anything I can do to prevent this contract from not happening this semester. I'm just really stressed and hoping to find an answer. Is it the cadre at my MILS building that decide to contract me? Or does it go higher up?

Thank you for your help!

I edited my first response hoping either of those two members will provide input. Get a draft 104R completed so you and your cadre know you can graduate on time in 2019 despite not being full time this semester. Have you passed a DoDMERB exam? That too is required.

Review the contract details. Good luck.

I completed my 104R today and they said I'm definately a 19. Also, I am in the Guard so I went to MEPS and was cleared there. I haven't been informed of having to do any other medical tests as of yet, but I guess I will find out shortly if I have to do so. Also I noticed a question in your above response, I'm looking to contract this semester for benefits of the following fall (fall 2017). Thank you!

MEPS can qualify you too - but your Cadre know for sure. Make sure it is clear what you are signing up for - GRFD or regular scholarship that will allow you to apply for AD or Reserve/NG.

Write your list of questions out and when you have an opportunity to discuss it with your cadre, do so. Express your financial fear - they do understand.

And next time, have these discussions before dropping a class. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir but for the benefit of lurkers I thought it deserved mentioning.

Yes definately regretting that now. I wasn't informed of having to remain full time in order to contract. However, when I read the contract, it seemed to me like it states that you have to remain full time ONCE contracted. Not while going through contracting. Here's hoping though.

From what I've read in your posts, you are looking to contract with a two years scholarship that would activate this coming Fall semester. Since this semester is nearing the end I assume you would not be contracted for the remainder of this semester, not collecting a stipend or any scholarship money for this current semester. If that's the case you should be fine as long as you carry the required number of credits once your contract and scholarship is activated. Of course as others have said, you're battalion cadre will have the best information on how all this will work.

Okay thank you! That's what I was trying to figure out. I don't need anything until fall. However, I do need the ship to basic to be cancelled in order to remain with ROTC. That's a whole other story. But if it appears that everything is good on my part minus the under hours pre contracting then I hope all is well! I will be hearing from my cadre later this week, but I'm a worrier so I wanted to know if anyone had any info about this under hours thing. It sounds like I should be good then. Thank you all so much for your help!
