Junior Year HS students applying to the academy CHECKLIST

equestriangrl--

1. Since you are home schooled, you can ask other people to do your online evaluations. Here is the official wording from the AFA application:

"If you are Home-Schooled you will have the option of selecting civic leaders, coaches, etc. in lieu of teachers."

2. Congressional nominations can come from U.S. Senator or U.S. Rep. only. State Reps or Senators can not nominate. Its totally up to your nominating source (Senator, VP, etc.) whether they give you a nom for just one academy or more than that. Some like to spread the wealth and only give one to a candidate. And yes, you will need a nomination to the USMA.

3. You can retake the SAT or ACT through the fall and submit scores. I believe the last day this year for submitting updated scores, other info for files, etc. was technically Feb. 15 (assuming application had been started before Jan. 31).

Hope this helps!

Thank you!

Thank you! Had blinders on for a minute. Guess I saw what I wanted to see - sorry! I know there is work to be done, but also time to do that work. So we keep on truckin'. It's not a sprint...it's a marathon. Thank you!!

alparent: Have you had a chance to look at the academy brochure. it's linked to in my signature block. 2010-2011 brochure. It's a PDF file. it's the entire brochure. It explains a lot. Different types of nominations. Class averages of those appointed to the academy. Averages on the CFA. Questions about the school, classes, etc... I highly recommend downloading it onto your computer so it's always there.

It's common to get a lot of questions about what type of classes, what type of sports, what type of activities, etc... But academically/gpa/SAT-ACT/etc... most applicants should have a very good idea on how they stand. Especially if they look through the brochure. You know if you're average; above or below. Best of luck. Mike...

CC: That brochure is awesome! Took your advice and downloaded it. DS read it cover to cover, and so did I. Thank you!

There are so many questions that noob's have, that can be immediately answered from the brochure. From average scores to the "type" of cadet the academy profile makes up. There's a lot of people on these forums willing to help; but basically, the same exact questions get asked year after year after year. If we can "Quote" or reference directly to the academy, that is the best source. That's why i recommend the brochure to every new applicant/parent. If you read through that, you will already understand the majority of the application and appointment process. Best of luck to you and your son. mike....
