I’ll start: I was sitting in the back of the room while my older (now Mid) was attending an admissions visit with the Battalion at State U. He asked about the difference in culture between Air Force and Navy. The Captain showed him a Google search ‘Bob culture air force navy’ or similar, and up popped an old, well written thread. DS noted the address. And the rest is history! That Captain recommended it. He was a Submariner, NROTC product.

And here it is!!

Daughter applied and I found this site while searching for information way back then. Best information for all of fifteen years and a lot of fun. Funny story. We went to West Point for a briefing when Son was applying and Daughter was home. Major was talking down Naval Academy and asked why she was laughing at his presentation? Her answer "I am at the Naval Academy". He then asked me were you veteran, what service? Answer, Air Force. Youngest was also with us and he asked her "What, are you going Coast Guard to round it out? It is a great ride:thumb:

It was a cold and dreary night. I had been wondering lost for what seemed like hours, no days, and clicked down this one path and like magic, a light came on. The light was too late for my son but whatever. It all worked out just fine.

Update: Oldest Daughter X USMC Captain, Wife of USMC Major and mother of my two grandchildren. Son is Lt. USNR and now deployed on USNS as Merchant Marine half way around the world from us. Youngest is Nurse and applying at children's hospitals. It is a great and wild ride.:yay:

I stumbled on it when DS started applying for NROTC. Only NROTC, as there was no other choice for him but USMC. I was so ignorant back then, I didn't even realize each service had their own boards, and within Navy USMC had its own boards. As a result, when @clarksonarmy posted that the latest board results were out (obviously AROTC) I was up half the night repeatedly checking DS's status. Learned a lot from there though and love paying it forward.

I think I have a lot of virtual friends here but have yet to meet them. I did miss clarksonarmy by 15 minutes one time at his office though. I got there 15 minutes after lab started. 😔

There is a good story behind it now that I am down range from it. Maybe I will start a thread about things you do to occupy your time when you are laid up.
I was laid up for awhile after a series of knee surgeries. I was put on limited duty (LIMDU) which effectively stopped any chance of advancement to master chief. Twenty six years ain’t a bad gig though.

I have a few laid up stories as well.

Oh wow.... I don't know! I think I saw it referenced somewhere else, maybe on the military.com forums. It's been awhile though. I was on a ship when I found it.

During DS's senior year of high school, I asked him some question about USNA. He said he found the answer on a "website that was for United States service academies and people who were applying", but wouldn't tell me the website address. I found it very quickly when he wasn't around. My job for the last few decades is locating information both online and in print for other people, even when they can remember only just vague bits of info about what they are seeking. He forgot that.

A client of mine whose son was a Mid at one time told me about this site when I told her my son was interested in West Point.

Not really an interesting story.
I wanted to find more information about the academies so I googled a question (I don't remember what question) and this site popped up, and the rest is history.

I came across this forum a couple times when googling specific questions, but I created my account when a friend of mine sent me a link to the SAF when USAFA announced summer seminar and JROTC results would be delayed.
