JUST HEARD NEWS on NROTC!

Make sure your DS's NROTC recruiting officer at the #1 school is aware of the award.

While there are NO guarantees, he or she might have some degree of influence at admissions, especially given your son has an NROTC scholarship in hand.

AROTC-dad, DS applied to multiple ROTC Programs (A, AF, N). How would that work if he is fortunate to get multiple acceptances? Thanks again for your wisdom.

Decide what is more important, choice of school or choice of ROTC branch. Let that be your guide. (BTW the only right answer is what is most important to your DS.)

The results posted yesterday were for Navy ROTC. Log into netfocus to find out if your status has changed. You can do a search and see when the MO's were posted last year. I think they it is December.
This was first board results, there will be others.
Good luck!

So great now that I didn't get it for this board I probably won't get it at all...

That is not true. Very few get scholarships on the first board. There are plenty to go. I know you feel defeated right now, but part of being in the military is learning to hurry up and wait and dusting oneself off after you feel like you got knocked down. The lessons you are learning right now will only carry over into ROTC and active duty days. The difference is one day, you will be leading Sailors and you will have to hide these things when it happens to you and help your Sailors along when they get knocked down.

Hoops how do I know if I will get it at all? I've been to,d numerous times that I have a very strong chance of receiving a scholarship but if the officers from this first board didn't like my package what says the same ones won't the second time around?

@CadetAviator - The answer is you simply don't know. But you must prepare contingency plans - hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

This process involves: 1) PLANNING for the best outcome, 2) PREPARING for the worst outcome.

#2 means having Plan B, Plan C etc. all the way to Plan Z.

In 2015, my DS planned on becoming a commissioned officer by 2019.
  • Plan A was USNA,
  • Plan B was USMA,
  • Plan C was NROTC scholarship at an SMC.
None of these three outcomes came to fruition for him.

Was he disappointed? Yes. Did he take action? Yes, he had a Plan D.

Plan D was attending a local Regional University (U of Nevada), where he had received a small academic scholarship, and becoming a walk-on in Army ROTC. (He never applied for the AROTC scholarship in high school). He enrolled at Nevada and joined Army ROTC. In the first few weeks of the freshman semester, he was approached by a Marine officer recruiter and was offered PLC/OCS. He thought about it and declined to participate in Marine PLC/OCS as he felt it would be disloyal to his Army battalion. At this point, he was "all-in" with Army ROTC.

He got good grades and worked hard while participating in as many ROTC activities as possible.

Within three months of enrolling he earned a campus based Army scholarship from his battalion.

I have no doubt he will achieve his goal of commissioning in 2019.
