Im an Army ROTC cadet and just recently took my DoDmerb exam. On the eye portion of my exam the doc told me i had a mild case of Keratoconus in my left eye, on the scale of 1-10 he told me it was a 1. My vision is corrected to in the left eye 20/25-30 right eye 20/15-20 both eyes to 20/15-20. All of my numbers are within limits. I have not recieved my results yet but I believe that they will come back bad do to KC. If they do come back that way (results) what steps should I take? Is there any chance I can still commission? Im not asking for Aviation or anything like that, just want to be able to commission in the Army. Currently I am not contracted or on any type of scholarship, the reason I went and did the DoDmerb is so I could get the scholarship/contract. So far I have completed 1 year of Army ROTC and currently I am in 1st semester of the 2nd year.

The problem with KC is that it's a degenerative disease that often results with a corneal transplant or laser surgery. Even if it's a 1 now it can progress for a decent amount of time especially if diagnosed young.

Ehhhhhh I would ask you opthamalogist for more info rather than asking here. This is a very specific medical question.

Edit: Sorry I misread your question but I think in this day and age you will be denied a waiver

Since it sounds minor (I'm not a doctor, I just play one on this forum) you may be able to get a waiver. I would expect your cadre would help with that if it's needed.

They just stamped every thing off as medically qualified.

DIMA just wanted to follow up on your waivers. I made it to MCRD, even with a color blind stamp on my papers. Once in Recruit Depot they found I had Keratoconus and sent me home. This was 2015. So far I've searched the web and been to several recruiting offices and I keep finding the same thing. That they will not waive it. Just wanted to ask how did go for you?
