Kinesiology degree USMA

If one receives a degree in Kinesiology from USMA, and upon graduation from USMA does the Army place one with this degree in areas where they can use the degree to its potential, and still satisfy the needs of the Army?

Is so, can someone give some examples?

There is no direct relationship between your major and your branch assignments. Branch assignments are based on the cadets class rank and the allocations for each branch are based on the needs of the Army. There are other threads that kind of show generally how many of each branch is available every year and the class ranks for each need to be. There are a few slots each year that require additional education requirements like Med School. So to get a med-school slot, you need a Pre-Med degree but you also need a class rank high enough to select that option. I hope that helps.

• Like most USMA majors, Kinesiology will neither enhance nor hinder branch selection, with the possible exceptions of Cyber, Medical
• A maximum of 2% of the class can choose medical school - must meet certain course requirements and be approved by USMA on a competitive basis
• A high percentage (I think 70%) must go into combat branches (Infantry, Armor, Field Artillery, Engineers, Aviation, Air Defense)
• My understanding is that Cyber uses major in addition to class rank for selection (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, possibly a few other STEM majors)

Cyber is a new branch that has only been available for three years. The first two years Cadets were hand selected. This year only 30 slots were available to ROTC and WP. WP was given 15 of those slots. (The beauty of attending WP vs ROTC). This year the top OLM Cadets for Cyber had System engineering majors and the rest were electrical and computer engineering. Do not get hacking and cyber confused. Hacking assignments will go to the enlisted. Also, Cyber has the longest BOLC of all branches. Oddly very few of the hacking club got into cyber, instead they were assigned to Signal Corps and a few attached to combat such as artillery. (double kick in the shin)

Kinesiology major at WP in not like the State U major. It is very difficult to get into and only about 10 Cadets are able to select this as a major. Its also a very difficult major academically at WP

While few of the hacking team got into Cyber, it increased their chances greatly. 20 names were picked for selection into the Cyber branch, and from those 15 were chosen - every one of the hacking team members was sent in for selection. That right there is a huge leg up, but after that it's mostly OML, so that's why they didn't get it.

And the guys who didn't get into Cyber, their OML was in the 900 range. So to our readers out there, this is how important your OML or class rank is to choosing the branch you want.

Quick note about kinesieology - it's a rough major to get, only around 15 slots are given each year, so be ready to make yourself stand out from everyone else.
