Son just checked his admissions status and it reads "LOA." Hoping it means "Letter of Acceptance/Assurance/Appointment"?

As you are probably aware from reading thie forum, things change from year to year, but last year for my DS's portal, it went, On File; Principal; Appointment. Just wondering, did you DS receive an LOA in the mail from USMMA yet? If yes, as I am sure you know, all your DS will need is a nomination from MOC. If not, have your DS call USMMA and ask. Best of Luck you your DS

LOA?

Thanks for the reply and for the insights. No, we haven't received anything in the mail yet. My son already has his nomination from our local MOC, though. As an aside, I thought after 30+ years in the military and government I had all the acronyms down, but this is a new language for me in these forums: DS; DD; BFE; TWE; MOC; LOA, etc. I know "LOA" can mean "Letter of Assurance" with respect to conditional acceptance to one of the service academies, but I'm not sure how it applies to my son since he already has his nomination, complete application submitted, DoD physical done, etc. Hopefully we'll find out soon, and hopefully it's all good! Thanks and best wishes to you and to all for a wonderful holiday season!

There is an Acronym List under the Community Information and Feedback heading: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/showthread.php?t=11568

Letter of Assurance means the candidate will get an appointment if s/he has a nomination and is qualified academically, physically and medically. So if he has all of that (and is not waiting on a waiver for medical), he should receive the BFE in the mail soon.

LOA?

Thanks for the replies and for the link to the acronym list. Son is fully medically qualified so I guess it's looking good! Shaping up to be a very Merry Christmas indeed!

I don't know if the applicant portal changed this year, but we have a new intranet thing at KP. The grade system, online bill payments and scheduling software is all new and it was rolled into the same software. Perhaps this software also handles the admissions stuff, and that's why we are seeing different statuses than in years past.

LOA!

Son received his letter confirming his conditional appointment yesterday pending a favorable medical exam (already done) and continued academic performance! What a great Christmas gift!

CONGRATULATIONS! Very nice Christmas present. We had the same experience last year. A big weight has been lifted from your DS...please remind him to continue to study hard and make intelligent and wise decisions. If he decides to attend USMMA, welcome to the KP family.

LOA means you are in pending med/nom/ or CFA.
The levels are : inquiry, app on file, hold, LOA, Principal candidate.
I am a local rep and I deal with these. If you have the last two you are golden.
Do not play around with the DODMERB exam. Get it done as soon as you can.

Rayme and the others who responded, thank you very much for the replies and for the info. And BuckeyeGuy, a belated thanks for the congrats, advice, and welcome to the KP family. We are all very excited and looking forward to meeting new shipmates! My son received his formal offer of appointment a couple weeks ago after final clearance by DODMERB. They needed a letter from his orthodontist certifying that he was finished with his braces, and once that was done the BFE showed up in the mail. DS is thrilled and Mom and Dad are proud and grateful. Best wishes to all and good luck to all who are still waiting to hear!

Have you joined the USMMA class of 2019 parents page on FB?

Congratulations!!
You will definitely want to join the parents page. I don't know how we would have figured out everything on our own.

Thank you! Yes, we've joined the FB page. A lot of good info and very helpful. The Acceptance Weekend Guide for the Class of 2018 posted on the FB page is helping us plan ahead for our trip up this year. Thanks again!

Are the levels you mention all progressive steps that each successful candidate will see come up? For example, does each (ultimately successful) applicant go from app on file to hold to LOA?

Based on last year for my DS it went as follows: App on File, Principal. With that being said, he received an LOA in between App on File and Principal. He received an LOA before he had his nomination and then forwarded it off to the MOC and then he received his nomination and then the portal went to Principal. I hope that is clear as mud...any questions please feel free to PM me if you would like

When you have your App on File you either go to LOA (waiting for Nomination, Med, or CFA). When you are clear you change to a Priciple candidate.
That is for an outstanding candidate. Others go from App on file to hold or dropped. You can be on hold until your spot in line opens up or until you get dropped.
