1. Are plebes allowed to use a pass to leave labor day weekend and return monday?

2. If so what time are cadets dismissed/allowed to leave on friday and head to the airport?

3. Is there transportation provided to and from the airport?

thanks

Labor day weekend 2010 is the same weekend as parents weekend, in which case no they cannot leave until the completion of the CG football game Saturday. If USMMA wins, they are usually granted overnight lib until 1800 the next day. They cannot get special libs at this point and there is no transportation provided.

Regiment hooah!!

If they keep the schedule they kept this year then they will be allowed to take pass and must return the day before classes at 1900. They can leave as soon as their last duty is completed (which will be his last class and depends on his specific schedule). Buses are provided to and from the airport for about $40 (the price is different for each airport) dollars 2 way trip.

Last year they got rid of 3 day weekends but they brought them back this year so I am guessing they will be back again next year.

there is no home football game at west point labor day weekend.

So is the answer ...yes, they will most likely be allowed to leave labor day weekend? Having a difficult time understanding the anwer. Not so much an issue for us as we live in NY state....but others would find this useful information as transportation and planning may need to be considered.

Plebes can go home for Labor Day weekend as long as they have a pass to use.

Here's the 'clear as mud' version.

-Plebes are allowed one pass per semester. They can earn more passes (For ex, my DS's Beast company was Best Company during Beast {based on points} and they earned an extra pass).

- Passes are privileges- not entitlements. They are not guaranteed, they must be applied for, the TAC must approve it, and to be approved the cadet must be in good standing academically, physically (passed the APFT to the West Point standard), and militarily (discipline.) They will most likely not secure a final approval until the week before the pass weekend so making travel arrangements involving flight bookings is a bit risky.

- to be picky, a pass is not leave. Leave is what every cadet gets like Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, if you are not in good standing academically, physically and militarily, you not may not be granted leave. Case in point, Spring Break followed Plebe Parent Weekend this year. When we were leaving West Point with our Plebe after PPW was over, we saw about a dozen cadets picking up trash. Seems they had some areas where they were not in good standing and therefore, there was not going to be a Spring Break for them, at least away from West Point.

- So yes, they can use their one pass for Labor Day IF they are in good standing academically, physically and militarily and if their TAC approves. The approval MAY not come until a day or two before Labor Day. BUT, who knows, West Point may decide to not allow passes for Labor Day this year for whatever reason.
The only thing that is certain is that nothing is certain.
Welcome to West Point and the military! :thumb:

Passes also get approved for the most part and I don't suggest waiting until the final approval to buy plane tickets as they would be really expensive. It is fairly easy for a person to know if their pass will be approved or if there is a reason for it not to be approved so it isn't a huge risk. I do know some who had bought their tickets then got in trouble a few days prior to spring leave and were unable to leave though.

The only reason you wouldn't be granted leave is due to disciplinary reasons.

Thanks all...the picture becomes clearer. I feel so fortunate that we live 3 hours away......sure I will be opening up my home for cadets who are much farther from home the next 4 years.

Pass vs Leave

1.) Which holidays are for pass and which are leave?
The calandar refers to both Labor Day and Thanksgiving as (Holiday).

2.) If we come to a football game there do we sit with our son? Will we be able to spend time with him, without him burning his only pass? Would he be able to meet us for a brief coffee or sandwich on campus?

I am sure I will learn much more about all this.
Thanks

Many plebes take a pass Labor Day weekend and go into NYC or home, if it's not too far. They need a pass for Labor Day, but not for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Our son entered the stadium with his company for the game, then came over to our seats and sat with us. He was able to spend the rest of the weekend with us after the game. He went back to our hotel (which was in Highland Falls). His plebe year when we visited we had to stay in HF. During Yuk year we went to NYC and to Central Valley.

1) Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and Summer are considered Leave and do not require a pass.

2) He can sit with you and go anywhere with you for the weekend as long as it is within walking privileges so basically just Highland Falls without using a pass.
