Lacrosse or track?

I am a current senior and I received the TWE back in February. I currently have 3 seasons worth of JV Cross Country/track but no varsity/letter. I am definitely reapplying next year so I decided to join a spring sport. Right now I am in track and it looks like I will be varsity 800 relay as well as varsity high jump and I should receive a varsity letter (assuming all goes well). My school just started a lacrosse team this year and they are in need of players so I went to a practice and loved it compared to track. The only problem is that I would be swinging between varsity and JV so I would not receive a letter.

Which of these would be more beneficial for the application? I know that varsity letters are a big deal but I definitely know that lacrosse would be more enjoyable. Is lacrosse viewed more favorably than track? Or vice versa?

Any input would be appreciated.

Varsity letters are nice but the Academy knows that some schools give them away and others are very stingy so they are not the golden bell but are a nice indication of participation and skill (compared to your classmates----another variable). However, all the Academys like to see a TEAM sport and if you like Lacrosse and it is a new team, your chances of being a stud on it are pretty good and your opportunities for leadership may well be a lot better too. I'm biased, though, and love Lacrosse.

Thank you for your opinion. I feel bad backing out of track since I've already made the commitment but I feel that it is the right thing to do
