Good evening everyone. I've looked into the languages USAFA provides as minors but wanted to know if anyone has insight on these programs. I want to pursue a language as a minor, but I am not sure which one I should pick and if the program is even worth it over other minors such as Nuclear Weapons & Strategy or Space Warfighting. I am specifically interested in Chinese or Japanese, so if anyone has insight on those programs that would be amazing. Thanks

While you wait for someone more qualified than me to answer, try using the search function to find posts where people said Chinese or Japanese. There is some good information about these programs already on here.

Yeah, just wondering if anyone had any specific/updated experiences with the Chinese/Japanese minor programs :)

I completed the Chinese language minor at USAFA. Is there something specific you are looking to learn? Did I find it valuable - no, not during my AF career, but I wanted the achievement. There are careers in the AF that will leverage these, and assignments that would benefit from the knowledge, but I did not find myself in one of those roles during my time on active duty. Like all minors, it is an area of interest in which you take additional studies. Achieving the level of proficiency needed to make extra monthly income is difficult. Most languages will require quasi-native speaker level proficiency on the Defense Language Institute exam.

My assumption is that you could request one of these languages and get it on your schedule. I requested Spanish because of 2yrs in high school, but I was assigned to Chinese.
