Hi, i am curious what laptops were issued this year. I want to move away from my middle school chrombook. Thank you.

Keep in mind the make and model may differ from year to year, or over the arc of 2-3 years, because this is a competed govt contract for a bulk purchase. I don’t know if it’s a one-year or multi-year. It will be a PC not Mac, and the likely providers are Dell, HP, etc. with a Windows-based system and USNA software that allows you to connect to the system. Someone else will pop up with specific stats, I’m sure, but it will have MS Office suite and whatever else you need for homework, math and engineering applications, etc.

This year, USNA and USAFA seemed to be issued the same laptops. Laptop and specs are below:

Hp Elitebook 840 G6
i7-8665U
32 GB 2400MHz RAM
1 TB NVMe SSD
14" 1080P display

I was shocked at how well specced these laptops are; they'll definitely age well, especially after the government software is removed. :)

Mach01,
Wow, thank you. I never expected to receive such a detailed response. Greatly appreciated 😁

‘22 was also issued HP Elitebook laptops. Very expensive but they’re nice machines. That said I personally would not base my PC purchasing decision on what the Naval Academy issues midshipmen. Even if you plan on attending USNA, the laptops you buy there are part of mandatory gear issue. You have to buy it even you already have a suitable laptop in your possession. You are welcome to have your own extra laptop but it will not be configured to connect to the mission network.

Nice machine .... I think the graphics card may make it run a little Hot.

I have an HP that is similar that I bought at Costco, same processor but a business graphics card. It is the “Coolest least Hot” of all the notebooks I have ever purchased. Incredible speed doing Machine learning development .... great purchase for under $500.

I bought the higher end version with the accelerated graphics for DD last year, and that thing runs so Hot. She doesn’t have it with her in Bancroft. The standard issue model that they received over the summer is way more power than they will ever use.
