Larry Mullen the Deputy Director of DODMERB posted his e-mail address last week for all on this forum to access and ask questions. Tonight I accessed my daughter's medical status on the DODMERB website and found that yet another disqualification letter had been sent. It looked as if her waiver had been denied, though her status still read "pending submission of waiver request/review." I was frantic and confused so I e-mailed Larry and immediately got a response that he was out of the office. Seconds later my phone rang and it was Larry himself calling from Washington D.C. He spoke at length with me regarding my daughter's case. He was very thorough, explained the process and cleared up all the questions I had. Long story short, her case is now going to be evaluated by the waiver authorities.

I was amazed at the lightening quick response. This was unbelievable service!! I can't say enough about him. Larry, with so many questions people must have, you must never sleep.

Got to give the man his props! I didn't even realize the connection between this post and the user MullenLE (I don't peruse the DoDMERB section very often). Thanks for being here!

Very similar situation occured with my son earlier this week.......in a major panic , I went to this forum late at night, after checking the DoDMERB site, to seek advice........Larry called within seconds of my S.O.S. email ......even though he was TDY in Boston....as of today, son has been granted a medical waiver from the Supt (USNA)......with much credit going to Larry , in my book ! Thanks again Larry :thumb:!

My pleasure. Best of luck. And thx for your service in feeding the nation!!!!

DQ Removed Thank you Larry!

We just received word from Larry Mullen that our daughter's DQ was removed! Larry had called me last Thursday night when he was TDY in Washington D.C. to discuss my daughter's case. He answered all my questions professionally and efficiently. Today, on a Sunday, I had a call from Capt Glenn Merchant who is the director of DODMERB. We spoke at great length about my daughter's case. He too was very professional and candid. (This call I know was prompted by Larry.) About 30 minutes after speaking with Capt Merchant, Larry called to say that Capt Merchant was removing the DQ. All I can say is thank you Larry and thank you Capt. Merchant for listening. This forum has been a powerful tool for me and it can be for you as well. As Capt Merchant said, DODMERB wants to do the right thing.

You are entirely welcome. While we can't guarantee a favorable outcome in all situations, we can guarantee, if you give us the chance, you will know we will do the right thing:thumb:

I had been dealing with the same situation for about the last month. I finally got in touch with Mr. Larry Mullen on Monday and by today (Wednesday) I have already been granted my medical waiver. Mr. Mullen is certainly out there to help people and if you have and trouble or questions he is the right person to go to. Thanks Mr. Mullen for all of your help!

Congratulations! It is our pleasure to help out where we can.:thumb:

Sir Mullen,

I recently received a letter from DoDMERB that I infact had failed the DoDMERB medical application program for my candidacy to the USMA due to my allergy to shellfish. I really have almost no allergy although a very slight allergy to crab, which I choose not to eat anymore. Is there anything that I can do to flip this around in my favor, sir?

You may want to start a new thread for this so it doesn't get lost on this thread.

cut and paste your posting; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; and send to me in an email:thumb:

I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question or make this post but as a parent I am sure other parents will forgive the intrusion. A few months ago we "Hired" dodmerbconsultants as a back up plan to assure our son has anything necessary to fulfill his dreams and goals. As of the past 48 hours Glenn's phone is disconnected but the web site is active. Do you have any info on this guy or did we make a bad investment?

RG: if you search on this forum you will see a wide range of opinions on that company and the service they provide. Earlier this year there was a string of comments about the phone being disconnected. Recommend you search out other forum members and PM them for any recommendations on how to contact them.

do you still happen to have his contact infor mation .

The magic of googling “Larry Mullen at DODMERB” - see below for info current as of May 2018.

https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/Content/APPLICANT REFERENCE DOCUMENT.pdf

Rats - via Safari and Google, I found a beautiful document with key contacts, primary resource, providing great contact info. Not sure why the copy/paste link doesn’t work when I put it above.

@TacticalNuke - if you can find the May 2018 .pdf I described above, I recommend it as a Sticky in the DODMERB forum as a current primary resource. I vote for all 12 pages to be copied into a sticky and properly credited. It is a dense document full of user-friendly info worth posting in its entirety, not just a link. More will read it if it’s right there.

And here’s his email:

Larry Mullen, Deputy Chief, DoDMERB

Quick question - my son received a pending disqualification on his "Distant Visual Acuity" not correctable to 20/20 yet on his form from the ophthalmologist (that we have a copy of) states Distance vision 20/100 and marked YES for both eyes are correctable to 20/20....when my son called Dodmerb this morning, they stated that USNA is just more strict on eyesight and a waiver will be needed. Why would his form from the Ophthalmologist state that he is correctable to 20/20 yet Dodmerb's code is stating he is not?...Can we get someone to review his form again? Do we have to request this or just wait for a waiver to be requested?

That is the problem with many things in todays world. In quest for efficiency we have created a system where no human beings are available to talk to . Lots of software and hardware companies no longer have a phone number for tech support and its all done through an email where you hope someone will call. The point I am trying to make is that sometimes all you need is a five minute or less phone call to straighten out the situation. Instead you wind up sending emails back and forth which can takes days. As for DoDMERB, I would assume Larry Mullen doesnt have the time to take everyones call and I am sure that half of them would be meaninless anyway. The people who work for 911 have thousands of stories of being called for weather or the time. It is great that Mr. Mullen was able to call and help these people

Very odd.

What is his eye glasses prescription?
