Late AROTC Application

I was awarded an NROTC interview this past week but with all my application sent out I’ve started to look into all possible admission outcomes. I found that some of my top options aren’t NROTC school, particularly NYU and Uchicago. My ultimate goal is to serve my country, and while the Navy is my primary option, I would be willing to seek commission in the Army as well.

My question is if I applied very close to the document deadline if February, would my chances at receiving a scholarship be diminished. For reference, my NROTC scholarship was awarded upon first review of my application since when I submitted the entire package, only one board occurred. I understand that AROTC is a completely different process so I don’t want to extrapolate any measure of competitiveness from my experience with the NROTC process. Since NYU is by far the most expensive school on my list, I would like to have a way to cover tuition while being able to serve, but I’m worried that a late application will put me at severe disadvantage since the scholarship quota may be already filled.

You are worrying about things out of your control. Instead of posting on the forum you should be starting your application. There is no advantage or disadvantage to early or late applications other than missing a round of offers. You don’t get extra points for being the first and you don’t get dinged for being the last. There will be third round offers made, and there may even be some supplemental offers made after the process, so along with applying I recommend you reach out to the recruiting officer for the program offered at NYU and let him know you are interested.

Maybe contact NYU and see if they have a sister school where their students participate in NROTC? Sometimes universities do that.

A list of Navy host schools and affiliates is on the NROTC website. I didn’t see NYU listed as a crosstown.
