LEAD Program Appointment Thread (C/O '22/USAFAPS '19)

Alright so, lajiraffa, I got my out processing checklist from my base. It was uploaded to vMPF automatically (as it should be) so you shouldn't have to ask anyone for it.

Robbiexd, totally man. I've been "cadet" for a while now. But it's all in good fun so it doesn't really bug me much.

gonzogonzoant1995, your "instructions" on how to out process should be the out processing checklist which I made mention of. Under normal circumstances, you should receive both your out processing checklist and your orders around the same time. It's very common for one to be uploaded to vMPF before the other. Generally your checklist first, orders second, but this is not always true. After both are available to you on the vMPF you can begin working on your checklist. Keep in mind that many of the items on your checklist will require you to have a copy of your orders.

As it stands I still don't have my orders, but I do have my checklist. Hopefully we all get our orders soon.

Do you Kno anything about tmo? Are they paying for us to ship our **** home?

Just got orders today.

Real talk though, has anyone else been having to deal with all their coworkers sarcastically saluting them and calling them "Cadet" and "Lieutenant"? Like I get it's all in good fun, but **** that got old by the second day my unit knew.

I think it's all in good nature and fun. You can almost see the happiness they have when do it for you. It bugged me at first because I didn't want to cause attention but I started to realize it was because they are sort of proud of you. You're an enlisted going on to do better things than just push paper or spend 12 hour shifts working till you drop. Just take it for what it is.

gonzogonzoant1995, they are paying for our stuff to be shipped home! According to my assignment RIP, my stuff is permitted to be shipped to my "home of record". Which is still my parents' house luckily. A TMO briefing, or similar, will be on your out processing checklist.

Okay so everyone who is still waiting on orders- this is the situation that I have and have worked through thus far. I don't think USAFA really does anything as far as out processing goes- this is all us. This is what I did to get my stuff and I may have gone ahead a little early but call me crazy I feel like I should've gotten word about something like a month ago. What I did was go to vMPF and start an application for early separation for OTS. If your interested, Its called a PETS application and your supervision should know what that is. Your commander has to endorse it but that shouldn't be an issue because they know you are heading to the Academy. It'll ask you to include some sort of proof as to why you should need an early separation. Just upload your acceptance certificate from the USAFA portal that has our date of entry on it- that should suffice. From there its waiting on AFPC to process your orders then you are out. Regardless of if you do this or not, MAKE SURE you dog your supervision so that things move as fast as possible so you have as much time at home as you can to prepare for the next 4 years. I have a feeling like this is outprocess a few days before day one at basic which is not exactly something I had in mind.

Also if you are still interested in a FB group chat for direct entry guys PM me I'll make the group and add anyone who send me their name.

My MPF finally got my assignment notification from AFSC this last Friday. Once you get that, you'll get a checklist from you MPF to complete before they will give you your orders as well as your Enlisted Assignment Notification RIP which will include info about your gaining unit and Personnel Processing Code (PPC). This will probably vary from base-to-base slightly. This checklist will include things like completing your Initial Assignment Briefing on vMPF, getting your records in order (like SGLI, etc), and completing some things like dependent info (even though you won't have any), and security clearance information. It will also include spots to check off on for PPC and retainability.

This is where I'm stuck right now. Somewhere along the line, (presumably at AFPC), my PPC was messed up. I have the PPC for an instructor PCSing to the Academy, which requires 48 months retainability... Which I don't have, so they want me to extend. There are also a few other stipulations in this PPC that make it evident that it isn't for a student. Right now I'm working through getting this PPC info sorted out so I can turn in my assignment notification checklist so they can then reach back to AFPC to get me my order, which could take up to two weeks... And I plan on leaving around June 10th.

Honestly this whole thing is a huge pain and it doesn't help that nobody has a clue about our specific situation. Trying to organize my move in conjunction with leave en route and travel days without having my orders is proving to be really complicated. This is all CONUS, so I can't imagine what it's like for someone OCONUS... Not to mention people with an excessive amount of leave saved up that needs to be taken before we get out there. It really doesn't help that the Academy waited so long to get the selected Airmen's names to AFPC in the first place.

Keep on chipping away at it and bug your supervisor/flight chief/1st shirt/MPF incessantly.

I spoke with cadet personnel and they told me that we are not separating. So I'd hold off on going through with the separation and instead bug your mpf to get you orders because ulitmately it's them that you will be waiting on.

Has anyone else been given a PPC of 9IT? I've been told I need to extend to have 2 years retainability, and have a couple letters from my leadership endorsing the move. It reads like they want me to do some sort of duty there, but I'm pretty sure it's not correct.

This is an error made by AFPC and it's frankly ridiculous. 9IT is the PPC for MTAs at the Academy (The DSD for instructors). You do not need to extend. You only need one year of retainability. Talk to your MPF and tell them that your PPC is wrong. I had to go through this same thing and they were all clueless. If it is necessary, get the Shirt involved.

Academy: "Our application will be lengthy, exhausting and intimidating. We will test their physical strength, intelligence and determination. No process will be more difficult than this"
AFPC: "You think you have the hardest process? Challenge accepted"

Mine was 9it. I gave the mpf guy working my case the USAFA cadet personnel number. When mpf called USAFA, they told them that we didn't need any retainability and that they would shoulder the process of separating us.

Any idea what the correct PPC is if any? I want to make this process as easy as possible for them so they don't have the chance to mess it up.

@Tactical Turtle A-men brother. The only thing that makes me hate my life more than the flightline is MPF.

We shouldn't have any PPC. After I finally convinced them that this PPC is wrong and they confirmed with the Academy, they altered my RIP and still had 9IT on there! My orders got pushed out anyways so it doesn't matter at this point.

Does anybody else have to fill out the sf86 security clearance paperwork even though they already have a secret security clearance?

You shouldn't have to. IIRC there is somewhere to check off that you're prior enlisted on your portal on the SF-86 part so you don't have to do it again.

Otherwise, just print it off from PRDA.

Hey guys! Sorry I've been off the grid for so long. Been busy as I'm sure many of you still are. As far as orders and out processing goes I'm basically at 100%. Just a couple of appointments to complete and I won't belong to my base anymore! Hooray! Following which I'm going back home to Florida for some R&R before making the trip to Colorado Springs.

All that said, I'd be willing to offer anyone advice should you need any. A couple things that held me back were PPC (everybody pretty much has 9IT), retainability, and having a current PT test score. My MPF was withholding my orders until these items were addressed. After several emails and about 20 phone calls to AFPC and the Academy, I finally got the information I was looking for: the PPC, RETAINABILITY AND PT TEST SCORES ARE NOT APPLICABLE.

What's that mean? Pretty much this... 9IT can stay on your orders and you can still out process. It's still on mine and I'm almost done. But then you need retainability, right? Wrong. That expires at the Academy then gets reestablished during your junior year (commitment year). Please note that on my assignment RIP there were two slots for a PPC - A primary and a secondary. The primary slot was blank, but the secondary slot had 9IT in it. Not sure if that helped me or not. I am also due for a PT test come June. Per AFI you have to be current +42 days before a PCS can occur. However, this is not applicable for a PCS to the Academy as a student. Not only are the PT tests at the Academy graded differently than a standard fitness test, but you're literally going to basic training. So a current PT test would be pointless.

What about the commander/supervisor letter. Is that still required. Our commander isn't here and no one has been able to get that letter signed for about a week now. I need them to start my orders soon.

Not required. That is required on the other PPC (9IW, I believe). No PPC is required for us.
