BLUF: Apply for scholarships!

As a preppie you are able to apply for general scholarships. Since all Tuition and living expenses are paid for this scholarship money will be processed and put into your regular pay check. There is a preppie who currently making an $1000 every other month because of this.

If you have questions let me know!

How long does it generally take for the usafa portal to reflect "qualified" after DODMERB has stamped it? My medical just got stamped "potential pilot qualified" on dodmil, but it is still showing "incomplete" on my academy portal.
Thoughts??

Mine took a while. I'm at the Prep School right now, so I was also trying to complete it in the middle of the government shutdown. Give it another week, hopefully it'll pop up.

So like Pell grants? or just filling out a FAFSA?

No so you are not actually to fill out finicial aid for the or USAFA.

Think back to like high school the general scholarships that offered by various organization is what I wasn’t referring to. If you look online you’ll be able to find some that will apply to you.

Ahh, makes sense. Thanks for the help.

Looks like I’m going to have to work on my run times. Direct. If you don’t get in once, try again.

Here is a funny story that I have only shared with a very small group of people: I received an acceptance letter a few years ago from my congressman. Within a day received news that it was sent by mistake, and I didn’t actually get in.

Hope to see all of you in a few months!

Do appointments really get dropped as late as April? I thought they were only through March and then rejection letters came in April? Is it different for enlisted?

Hello everyone, I want to start by saying congratulations for completing your applications! I hope to be in your shoes next year. I do have a question for all of you if you have any information. Did you take the SAT/ACT with the essay? if yes, how much weight does it have to your admission to the prep or direct entry? I just took the SAT today and felt like I didnt do too well on the essay portion. Any replies are helpful. Thanks!

You can choose to take one or the other and I would recommend taking the one that you tend to score higher in. I cannot say for the weight of taking both tests but I would recommend getting good at one test. Since USAFA does not require the essay, I did not take it; your choice if you want to take it though. I would recommend getting the highest score you can on either test, read all documentation that USAFA provides, train for the CFA, etc, etc....

Did I mention getting good at either test? lol

For what I have seen, priors tend to go to the prep school and can get in relatively easy in comparison. A direct entry prior pretty much has to have above average ACT/SAT scores.

There will be moments where you think there is not shot and get cold feet (I had the same feeling after I completed my application)
Don't get discouraged and keep at it!!!!

So I’m guessing we aren’t going to find out till April? This wait sucks
Based on what I read in a separate thread it looks like USAFA's goal for this year's candidate pool is to have all the acceptance letters for direct entry out by the end of March, and the prep school by mid April.

Hey all! I updated the appointment thread so I'll update this. My commander called me on Tuesday night to let me know that I received an appointment to the Class of 2023 and today my portal updated so it's official. Also, for anyone who was worried, if you have the minimum scores posted on the Airman LEAD Program page, direct appointment is possible. I don't meet the maximum age, so here is proof that you can do it.
