This thread is for prior enlisted Airman to discuss and answer questions for applying to USAFA's class of 2024.

I am a direct from this year about to enter, feel free to ask me any questions you have.

I believe that @colucci already started a thread but I am also a direct going to '23. I am a security forces reservists if any of that applies to you. You can always message me.

Admin - can you please delete one of these two threads to reduce redundancies? Nice to see the new aspiring Airmen on here already and those recently accepted lending their support. Knock 'em out of the park '23ers.

I've already posted on the other thread, but I guess this one has seen more activity. Currently waiting for the package to drop on the portal, the website states that it will be around July 1st for me; where is everyone else on the process?

Hello Everyone!!!

I was accepted to the Prep School and am also willing to answer questions you may have.

The main advice I can give you guys is to just play the waiting game.
There are a lot of little things that make this application difficult and waiting can suck.
For now just focus on training for the CFA, taking the SAT/ACT and most importantly doing your job well.

Trust me as long as your on top of your application everything else will fall into place.

Best of luck to all!

Mind sharing your SAT/ACT scores/HS GPA/Leadership/Volunteering/College and any other significant metrics? (Anyone else reading this, please feel free to share too)

Also I was concerned about getting prep schooled, but after reading what some other users had to say, my outlook on it changed quite a bit. If you could share your experience around halfway and after completing prep school that’d be awesome!

Do not be concerned about getting prep schooled! The prep school is great. You will get spun-up on math, chemistry, and english which will make freshman year academics feel much easier. You have the chance to takes classes like Calc I and English 111 on The Hill during your second semester. The prep school also offers physics and if you score well on the final, then you can validate Physics 110.

The prep school is a much tighter community than the Academy. In the past, about 160-180 preppies get appointments. That's 160-180 friends that will be able to support you while you are struggling through freshman year. Chances are that you will share a freshman squadron with one or two of them. Even if you weren't very close at the P, just seeing a familiar face will be comforting.

Trust me, it is not a 'wasted year'. There are plenty of opportunities to take advantage of if you seek them out!

What does the schedule look like for the prep school? If I get accepted into class of 2024 and go prep I would be in prep school while the class of 2024 is in their freshman year correct? I know there is something I'm missing about this.

I am planning on applying for the Class 2024. I don't really know where to start. I tried to do the application online but I don't have the SAT portion completed so I didn't finish filling out the application. I just recently took the SAT and still waiting for the score to come out. My supervisor is aware of this. Any suggestion?

MCA16 - My understanding is that you have to have a "qualifying" SAT/ACT score in order for your portal to open. I ran into this issue with an Airmen overseas who had not taken the SAT or ACT and it was not offered at our education center. When I spoke to the admissions folks they confirmed the need to have the SAT/ACT score for the portal to open. That has been 2 years ago but seems like it may be the case. That Airman had to go to another base in another country to take it and it took so long that he did not get his score back in time before the window closed. This is one of the many reasons to take both the SAT and ACT as soon and as often as possible. I know some people would like to study and wait until they are ready but my recommendation to them is not to wait.

Sounds like you are already in the waiting game for your SAT. I recommend that you take the ACT asap if at all possible. Most people perform better on one or the other. I would also start studying and figure out your next opportunity to take the SAT.

Wait for your SAT score to come out, enter it into the PCQ and go from there. In the meantime, get your CC/1Sgt or Supervisor/OIC (or some other officer) aware of your intentions and that you’ll need letters of endorsement. Begin the AF1786. You’ll be good, the packages are just about to open up.

Classes in the mornings. Military time, athletics, or homework in the evenings. I'm a few years removed from my time there, so I can't give you an hour by hour schedule.

As for your second question: If you are offered an AF prep appt, then you will reapply for the C/O 2025. The application process is streamlined significantly.

Thank you for answering, for some reason I thought I would be with the 2024 class, which doesn't make much sense.

I would recommend shooting for a 25 if you are interested in attending the prep school. My scores were lower than 25 but I also had a lot of college experience that got me accepted.

My High School GPA was a 3.5 and my College GPA was a 3.8.
I am an Eagle Scout and did 4 years of JROTC when I was in High School.

I had 2 letters of recommendation filled out from my JROTC instructor and my old Scoutmaster.

I had my letters of evaluation filled out by my Flight CC (Capt), Shirt (MSgt), and Squadron CC (Lt Col).

During my Enlisted Career:
Yellow Rope
Earned BTZ
Base Honor Guard
Earned my CCAF

Volunteered at a Boy Scout Troop on base as an assistant scoutmaster.

Bottom line I believe that the Academy is looking for us to be rounded as a person and show them that we excel in most areas. My ACT Scores were low but I counteracted this by taking college classes while working 40 plus hours a week. Just follow the instructions on your portal page and everything else will fall into place. I finished my application in October of 2018 but I had to work really hard to meet that deadline.
