Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development

Well, don't be discouraged if you don't get notified on March 2. According to the LEAD Handbook (http://www.academyadmissions.com/img/assets/PDF/USAFA_LEAD_Handbook_2011-12.pdf )
all LEAD applicants are automatically considered for PREP (assuming you are age qualified, i.e., not going to be older than 22 on July 1 this year). Obviously, they notify the Direct appointments first (during the month of March) and after all the slots are filled, THEN they begin sorting out who gets a PREP appointment. Some of the PREP appointments will not come out until late May, depending on how many they offer and how many are accepted. This means that if you are eligible for the Class of 2017 as well as the Class of 2016 ( i.e., will not be age 22 before July 1 this year) you still have a chance, but you may not find out if you have an appointment until the end of May.

Whatever the case may be, I'm glad to see more enlisted folks participating in these forums/threads. We're like the "black sheep" of the AFA admissions process because there are so few of us applying versus the many high schoolers/high schooler parents I see on here. Waiting for the go/nogo is HORRIBLE. Whenever I get a chance to, I check my portal only to find out that nothing has changed (LOL, I'm sure I'm not the only Airman doing this.)

I wouldn't call Prior-enlisted "black sheep". You have unique and valuable talents, assets & experience to bring to the Academy. The CSAF would not be pushing the program were that not so. There are 85 slots for Active Duty, 85 for Guard and Reserve and 50 more for Prep. The total slots are nearly 21% of the 1050 authorized for the Class of 2016. I estimate that roughly only about 10% of "regular" applicants/parents are using this forum. Probably most Prior's are not even aware of it, or don't have time to use it.

I can't agree more. In fact, Priors and Preppies are looked upon as "experts" during BCT. Thank you all for your current service and for your committment to be the tip of the spear. :thumb:

There isn't much to post about..
True. I only count 4 of us on here (LEAD applicants for Class of 2016/Prep Class of 13). Was hoping maybe there are more that just have not posted yet. I doubt seriously if any of us will hear anything at all until after March 1, however........

I have a hunch that its going to be the latter part of april to mid may for most of us

According to the AcademyAdmissions facebook page, LEAD airmen will start hearing back March 1st

I would say that is a pretty good hunch. Although I would guess that fewer LEAD applicants would not accept offers of appointment, they need to be extra cautious this year, due to the cap of 1,050 Cadets for the Class of 2016, which is the smallest class since the mid '60's. I doubt if very many LEAD candidates will hear anything at all before mid-March, honestly. I would not be surprised if the bulk of LEAD notifications do not come out until the late April-mid May timeframe this year.

Hang in there. LEAD applicants are automatically considered for PREP (assuming your age does not DQ you) and I imagine the PREP announcements will be made late May to mid June time frame.

Let me know if you any of you LEAD candidates are TDY to Nellis.. I'll buy the first round. If of age of course.

I'm more worried about my 5th SAT scores coming out tomorrow morning.

According to the USAFA website, under the heading "Airmen" and subheading "Timeline" it states:

February

Offers for enrollment in the Academy Preparatory School begin February 1 and end in early July.

Has anyone heard of any LEAD applicants receiving a Prep offer yet? I realize the website is likely not up to date, but just hoping someone might have heard something......

I haven't heard anything. I'd imagine since dagger and I were in the DVP (top 25 enlisted) we'd be one of the first LEAD candidates to hear back but who the hell knows.

I checked out that timeline. It's for everyone, it's not just exclusive to airmen

Airman, it's annoying me knowing that I know you in real life probably, but not on this here internet forum. Haha that's actually kind of funny.
