Leaders Encouraging Airmen Development

Just found this page and the discussions. My son also went to the Academy, for the visit in September. I am (not) patiently waiting to hear anything about his acceptance. Glad there seems to be others who feel the same way.

Good luck to everyone and glad I found you!

Dagger and I went to the same visit back in sept. Where's your son stationed?

Thanks, Nate! I thought I had read that somewhere, but wasn't sure. It would not surprise me if they had the same schedule, but who knows? We should see some direct appointments beginning later this month, and then the Prep appointments for Cadet Candidates in April and May (and even June!). Hopefully, there are some LEAD candidates lurking on these forums that will post when they get their BFEs. So far, I have only been able to identify maybe 5 that are hoping to receive either a direct appointment to the Class of 2016, or a Prep appointment.

No problem, and yea that all sounds about right, hopefully we all hear sooner rather than later, so good luck to everyone waiting, just about 18 more days and ill be stalking my commander to see if he has heard anything, since he should know way before we get the BFE, atleast for me anyways since I am stationed overseas.

Does DoDMERB have to clear you medically before your package can be looked at? I wasn't able to get my physicals in order until just a few days ago because of work.

I'm frustrated with the entire process because I already have a flight physical with the AF. I don't get why they can't just transfer the data.

I think they look at it anyways, but they may include a note about needing all your physical information cleared before they actually accept you. Meaning you could receive an appointment but it would be based upon the outcome of DoDMERB's judgement.

So the official prior page of the application states that we won't be notified of qualification and selection until early May.

I wouldn't expect anything this soon.

Im not sure if that is accurate, because the LEAD pamphlet (dated 27 April 2011) that is on the same site you posted states on its timetable that MAJCOMS are notified of appointments in Apr. See below for further reference.

LEAD Timetable
- AF Form 1786 submitted 1 Mar (year prior to entry) –1 Jan (year of entry)

- Submit Pre-Candidate Questionnaire on-line at http://www.academyadmissions.com NLT 31 Dec (Airman’s responsibility)

- Completed Candidate Packages NLT 1 Feb for USAFA direct entry
NLT 1 Mar for Preparatory School

- USAFA provides MAJCOMs
list of qualified candidates (non selected
Airmen availability code is pulled at this time) Apr

- Airmen can accept/decline Until May

Posted on the US Air Force Academy (Admissions) Facebook page, in response to a question as to when LEAD applicants will be notified:

"if you are receiving a direct entry appointment then you will hear back by mid April at the latest.

If you are receiving a Preparatory School Slot then you will be notified by May."

I saw that post as well, 2bornot2b, but I think I'll go with what my commander said just so I don't get my hopes up in for these few months.

Today I was pulled to my sup's desk and told that there is a 75% chance that in 8 days I will be going TDY for 4 months to New Mexico. This is good news because I was originally scheduled to wait until June, but also bad because I will be out of the area when the news does come.

No sir, a four month TDY to New Mexico is pretty much a deployment. If it's at Holloman AFB it's pretty much a combat tour as well. *shudder* ;)

You do have my sympathies.

Right, good news because I can get it over with sooner than later.
