Is there any indication that either USNA or USAFA will follow Army (USMA) with some receiving appointments with a 6 year active duty service obligation for the class of 2025? I’m not referring to added service obligations due to Warfare Community choices, or the like. Thank you.

Service obligation lengths are driven by, as always, the needs of that Service. The manpower modeling analysts look at retention, ROI, promotion rates, recruiting drivers, past precedent, short/medium/long-term impacts and many other factors. There are many ways to shape force strength and influence intakes and projected attrition. They also look at external factors such as the economy, civilian job market, etc.

Short answer: ADSO lengths are not set in stone and are always on the table. The Services are not always in lock-step with each other.

Admissions communicated that the USMA Class of 2024 would participate in a study to see how an extended ADSO would impact the process. Their is no word that USMA 2025 will also be included in the research. As @Capt MJ says, they are always being evaluated and last year's test was just part of that ongoing evaluation.

USMA more than likely is taking a proactive response to the upcoming Senate Armed Committee meeting in 2020 regarding possibly increasing the academy service obligation. The service obligation hasn't changed in over 30 years.

Doesn't sound like a front-burner topic for the Senate or House Armed Services Committee to me; they think they have bigger fish to fry in an election year.
