Letter of Assurance (LOA)

What's up everyone, I got an LOA this past Friday, with an appointment if I pass a Body Fat Determination Test (I was over the weight limit during my DoDMERB exam in July). So yes, it is still possible to receive an LOA, but it'll probably only be due to medical or CFA reasons.
So is the "body fat" test a form for the doctor to fill out with just your neck and abdomen circumference measurements? What is an acceptable result for a male? I've looked this all up online and found various answers, so it would be good to know truly what is correct!

I haven't received the form from USNA yet, but I've already done one for USAFA and USMA. For USAFA and USMA, it was a form that could be filled out by a doctor or nurse, and asked for height, weight, waist measurement and neck measurement. As for acceptable results, you can probably find that online.

DS received a 'conditional offer of appointment', pending receipt of this same form (interestingly, USAFA requested it early on as part of his application with them...). Yes, it was measuring him, and he did it with the school nurse. He is a football/wrestler/track participant, we find it amusing he is 'overweight'. The height/weight charts are everywhere, check their website. He sent the form back and he received his fully qualified offer about a week later. Now we wait for the blue folder...or BFE!!

Good to hear! My DS is a rugby player, very fit and lean, yet over the chart weight for his height - so was relieved when we did the measurements from what we figured out online and he passed with no problem. He is waiting to be asked to do the form though - I guess that would only be if he goes farther in the USNA process - no LOA or Conditional Offer at this point. Fingers crossed for an eventual appointment :)

How long after receiving your conditional offer of appointment did you receive your Body Fat Determination Form? I received my conditional offer of appointment on Friday, but I still have not received the Body Fat determination form. Not sure if I should be worried and contact Admissions.

Check your portal. It was included in his “conditional offer pending receipt of...”. It was a linked form.

Hi just wondering, how long after you turned in your Body Fat form did you receive your offer of appointment?

It was DS, and it was a little over a week. Have you received, and turned it in?

Yup I received it on Tuesday afternoon, and turned it in on Wednesday afternoon. Hopefully will get my appointment sometime next week!

Not sure if the government shutdown will affect the admissions timeline....:(:(

Yes, that’s something to ponder for sure. We have been thinking about it as well. Congrats on your (soon to be) fully qualified offer! While the offer happened a few days after USNA received his form, it took a week to hit the portal. Perhaps you have seen on the forums, that after you are offered full appointment, the academy first notifies MOC so they have about a week to notify their nominee. DS found out immediately (before portal turned over) bc his MOC notified him via sending a forward of that email to MOC from USNA. That email had a one week notification allowance as well as the date his portal would update. Which it did! And then he received his blue folder with offer exactly two weeks after portal update.

But, yes, perhaps the timeline will differ due to shutdown. You will have to let us know!

Very exciting stuff....congrats to you!

Hi,

I received a mailed LOA from USNA about 1.5 weeks ago and notification of my LOA over email from my BGO about 3 weeks ago. I have two questions:

1) Is something supposed to show up on my online portal? My online portal only shows that my application was submitted and that everything on the "My Progress" tab is completed.

2) My LOA stated that a requirement is a body fat determination form - my admissions officer said that I do not need to turn it in and that he has never heard of a body fat determination form USNA admissions wise. I read that a lot of people in the posts above are submitting body fat forms and then receiving their appointment a week later. Even though I have low body fat I wish to turn it in. How do I find the form and turn it in?

Thank you

Thank you for that. I logged into this second portal only once and I forgot about it. However, an LOA still does not show up here...
I am just telling you what I saw in my DD's portal. Once you login, you will see a button that says 'decision is ready..' and when you click that you can see your LOA. I have seen couple of posts here that they have recd the LOA by mail but the portal is not reflecting that. USNA is having some system issues and as long as you have paper LOA you are good. Give it some time and keep checking your portal.

And your LOA on this portal could have disappeared like my DD. If you have the paper copy I would think you are good that is what we are going with! Paper copy in hand. The wait continues!

Do the SA still send out LOA's after the MOC deadline?
LOAs can be conditional on a nom, medical qualification, some missing component of the application — anything the SA needs to complete the application and finalize the decision to offer. So yes, it’s possible for LOAs to be sent even after MOC nom slates are submitted. I know because it happened to DD.
