DD got her LOA via Fedex yesterday! Arrived on our doorstep! Her portal was also updated to "LOA" but no link.

Super duper excited for this excellent news and so very, very humbled to received the LOA. Still a long road but this is one of top choices for DD! She was able to visit her junior year spring on an overnight, and that really educated her on how awesome USMMA is! She is following her host on instagram who is on her sea year (hope I am using the right terms, sorry) which is actually very helpful to see what could be in DD's own future! And a big shout out to @kpmom2013 for educating me on USMMA!

If all goes well and she gets a nom, we are going to try and plan another visit in the Spring so that I can go and see it as well!

Big congratulations to you and your DD! So great to see when hard work pays off. I just returned from spending the weekend at KP with my DD. Seems like yesterday that she got her own LOA. Enjoy your remaining time with your DD because time will really start zooming by soon.

Congratulations!!! My son is currently a Plebe right now at the Academy and he received a LOA. It definitely relieves the stress factor. Good luck with the nomination process. We’ve just completed my middle sons application and dodmerb this week. Hopefully we will receive a LOA as well.

DS got a Fed Ex package today. Thanks for posting your experience - he had run off to boathouse and this Mom was dying of curiosity! We tracked him down and low and behold he had an LOA pending nomination. We know this is still just a step in the marathon but I know how much he wants USMMA.

DS received LOA a few days ago and decided to hide it from me. I was dogging him because he needs NROTC fitness test as last step for NROTC. I asked why it was not done in a text. he replied... well, I have MMA offer. I texted... "what"? He says, "yup." I congratulated him and took my car keys as punishment for his not letting me know.
Question: What is deadline for accepting an offer?

Oh my goodness. Our boys like to torture us parents don’t they? Congratulations!

Those of you with LOAs: is there an acceptance date specified in the paperwork, or is it like 'regular' appointments with a May 1 deadline (or whatever the date is for the 2024 class)?

Letters of Assurance usually have some requirement to complete, such as a nom or medical, as a condition of the promise of an offer. If it’s an LOA, he does not yet have an offer of appointment. If and when that is made, he will know the date by which he has to accept or decline.

Even though he has an LOA, it would be prudent for your DS to finish his NROTC application. A lot of issues can come up between now and the start of INDOC. If one of the conditions of his LOA is a nomination, and he does not get one, the appointment may not happen. If a medical issue comes up, he may get a waiver for NROTC but not for USMMA. Or he may have an injury that requires a setback at USMMA where he has to attend civilian college for a year. Ccongratulations on the LOA, but make sure a feasible plan B remains in place.

I see... it is the nomination. Boards in Alaska have not convened yet.

Pending nomination and continued academic excellence. When he meets these requirements, an appointment shall be provided.

Good luck on the noms! Once that is obtained, portals should update, and eventually, given an LOA in hand and your DS fully qualified, an actual appointment should eventually be offered in the next few months.

Then you can joyfully enter an appointment in the appointment thread, even if undecided, and update the entry later when final choices are made.

Excellent point above. It doesn’t have to be a big deal, just a call to the MOC staffer by the candidate saying “I’m so pleased to have received an LOA from USMMA. May I email a copy to be placed in my nom package?”

I think I have heard the SAs often copy the MOC, but I’d advocate for self-reporting.

Only word of caution is that the members of Congress (Senators and Representatives) do talk to one another and if you have a LOA from your second choice school and you are given an appointment to that school, in most cases you will not be given another nomination to go to another school.. that’s what happened with my older son last year. But on the other hand, with a LOA had, uou will get your nomination..... good luck.
