Hi, I'm currently in the process of applying for the class of 2026! Does anyone know if the teacher eval is just a LOR by a different name, specific questions, or something else? I've already requested LORs from my math and English teachers and need to know if they will be able to send that as their teacher eval, or if they will have to write something completely different.
Thanks!

In our experience, the teacher evaluation was a form that was digitally filled out. The teacher got an email with a link. When our DS applied his teachers said they were very specific questions. There was also a small portion of the form where remarks could be typed in.

Thanks, this is very helpful!

This MIGHT vary a bit among Service Academies. The USNA requires a Evaluation from a recent math and recent English teacher-it's as Heatherg21 described. Someone familiar with USAFA should weigh in and confirm how USAFA views these. I suspect it's the same. For future SA applicants-it helps to have a great relationship with all (especially Math and English teachers). SA's tend to like evaluations that show the student is a critical thinker, and helps other students.

My DD spoke to her English and Math teachers in fall of junior year to give them a heads up that this would be coming the following summer. You'll get better answers when they can prepare than if they have to whip up some vague, post hoc recalls months after the fact.

The only teacher that shared the evaluation with our DS was his physics teacher and he evaluated him for USAFA. DS never asked to see any of them and was surprised to receive a copy digitally from the teacher.

On the USAFA website, it still references USAFA Form 145 for the required teacher evaluations, so it's not just uploading a free-formed letter of recommendation.

However, check your current cycle rules. My DD 2024: E, M, and JROTC - the 3rd required is your choice, BUT, there was a SPECIFIED ORDER of preference listed in the Candidate handbook. So she selected JROTC over Physics teacher, even though he was a USAFA grad. She could also ask 2 other people, but I think were free-form letters of recommendation.

Also note on the USAFA website, it tells you exactly how many of which parts are the minimum to trigger DoDMERB. Verify this against what is in your C 2026 handbook.

Hello, I have a similar question. I have a letter of reference from my math teacher and would like to include the entire letter in one of the "2 additional recommendations" spot. I know the math teacher will receive the evaluation form, but I would like the admissions department to see the whole letter. Is there a place for him to upload the letter himself or should I submit it as one of my additional reference spots? Or can they do an entire letter in the evaluation part?
