Hello everybody. I want to send admissions a Letter of Recommendation from a member of my community that I have known for many years. It is not an SOE, just a standard letter that can be uploaded on the Upload Documents feature on the portal. Is there some sort of form that the letter must be filled out in, or should I just tell the person to write a standard letter? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

No form, just scan letter into you computer and then click upload doc tab and follow instructions.

Hello,

I have a couple questions regarding letters of recommendation, and I did not want to start a new thread.

1. What type of letters of recommendation should I submit? Here's an example: I have currently enlisted soldiers and retired NCOs willing to write recommendations for me, but I am not sure who USMA would want/accept letters from.

2. A retired COL mailed in a letter for me over the summer, but I never received any confirmation that they had received it. Should I go in and upload it to my portal now that this option is available? Or should I just ask my admissions officer whether or not they received it?

Thank you!

From the West Point Admissions Facebook page:
Just before the holidays, the candidate portals were updated allowing candidates the ability to upload certain documents. There have been questions about adding letters of recommendation. While nice to have in the "file", candidates should remain focused on the required documents/elements of their application so their files can be appropriately reviewed. Also, if documents have already been submitted via mail or via email to the regional teams, there is no need to resubmit via the upload feature.

It is a little deceiving to even have the option IMO.

...but I say this already understanding LORs were really just nice to have when my son began this process so its of no real value.

LORs after all are just too easy to produce and since WP hardly accepts anything from unverifiable sources, this seems appropriate.
