My naval counselor called this morning to inform me that he'd sent me the paperwork required for the February CVW. He then went on to congratulate me - he'd just sent off my offer of admission letter this morning, and I should be receiving it later this week. It's kind of out of the blue, as I had no LOA, but I'm not complaining at all.

After the call I was so ecstatic that I was almost trembling. Such a cool day.

Congrats. Keep an open mind when you do your CVW. Also, try to talk to some of the firsties who just finished initial service selection about what USN careers are like.

And, as I keep reminding folks over and over and over . . . the overwhelming majority of folks who receive appointments do NOT have LOAs. You are a prime example of this and you are just as qualified, if not more so, than someone who got an LOA. Don't lose sight of that.

Congrats on your appointment.

To add on to usna1985, please feel free to ask me questions, too!

Class of 2008 grad with already 8 months of deployment (over 2 seperate deployments), approximately 10 months of total sea time in my first 1.5 years. I have spent 6 of the 8 months in USNAVCENT AOR. Please feel free to ask me any and all questions about SWO.

Congrats.
I'll take questions too. Recent grad with no time spent outside of the US for anything other than vacation. Living the dream!

Congrats to all, question about taboo items for Plebes

DS has been notified that he has received his nom from the MOC and along with his LOA, makes him an appointee for 2014! :thumb:
A little off topic are the things I want to be sure he avoids taking back with him to plebe summer (I assume he needs pretty much nothing as everything he takes back with him is taken away) but more importantly, after PPW when we are planning to give him items for the coming AC.
That being said, what items are taboo for plebes to have? I've heard electronic items are a no-no, but does that include cell phones, particularly I-phones which double as an I-Pod, which on several threads appear to be verbotten. If a current Mid could weigh in on this, I'd really appreciate it. If we need to get him a different type of cell, I'd like to know.

Check with your BGO or AC regarding the existence of a Naval
Academy Parents Club for your area. They will be able to tell you all that you need to know about how to correspond with your mid, what to send, how to send, when to send, etc. These are great organizations for parents, and their knowledge and assistance also is a boon to the mids of members as it greatly eases the anxiety of separation. Congratulations to the appointees and those who have neither an LOA or an offer yet, heed the words of 1985 -you do not need an LOA to get an offer. Also bear in mind that offers will be coming out of Leahy Hall until well into June, so don't despair yet. Best wishes to all candidates.

Many mids, plebes included, have I-phones. During plebe summer, they are taken away and returned for the scheduled phone call. My son received his phone back at the beginning of the academic year.
