Letter prompts base to change flight suit rules

I am partial to the Dress Blue. To each their own. The rest of this post was kind of mean so I deleted it.

Oh no, please share by all means. I'd hate to deprive a Marine of the chance to slake his ingrained need to talk ad nauseum about why he thinks everyone else sucks in comparison.

Evidently not. I know for a fact that the Zouaves have been patiently holding back and are preparing a scorching retort.

I just think the Dress Blues are the best looking uniform. I guess, since you did not have the privilege to be one of us, you will never understand the pride that flows thru all Marines vains. There is a reason you see Marine stickers on so many cars. The USMC may be the smallest branch of the Armed Forces, but we represent well. As you said earlier, most soldiers don't know the birthday of the US Army, I would be willing to bet that every Marine knows that 10 Nov 1775 was the birthday of our glorious Marine Corps, that it was founded in Tunn Tavern, Phila Pa, Capt Samuel Nicholas was the first Marine recruiter. The first battle was at Fort Montague in the Bahamas, we took the fort without firing a shot.
Yes, we are a prideful, cocky lot, but we earned it. Every stitch on the Dress Blue Uniform symbolizes an event in Marine Corps history.
It is not that everyone else sucks, we need the Navy to take us to the fight, we need the Army to clean up the mess we leave, we need the Air Force to drop off supplies.
I hope you understand that I am saying this all tongue in cheek. I respect all the branches of the Military, my son goes to USAFA.
Our glorious hymn sums it all up:

If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heavens scene
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines

oooooh rahhhhhhhh!

Sure you do.

I absolutely do.

Granted, I feel Msrines are a cut above in the war and battle department, but that is how we are forged. From the time we get to BasicTraining for 13 weeks, to AIT, or whatever MOS we have. We are always taught that we are riflemen first, admins, cooks, truck drivers, etc second. We are taught that the world's deadliest weapon is a Marine and his rifle. We qualify at 500 yards during bootcamp.

Everyone in every branch has job to do to protect this country. There has always been good natured ribbing and sometimes not in the best nature ribbing, between all the branches. The Marines and the Navy are always going at it. The Navy folk like to remind us that we are part of the Navy, and we remind them that we are the better part, or that we fall under the Department of the Navy, we like to tell them that we are the Men's department. We also poke fun at ourselves, USMC - Uncle Sams Misguided Children, or U Suckers Missed Christmas.

The Army's senior NCO and officer leaders have let standards get flushed down the toilet, and raised a generation of young NCOs and officers who don't know what right looks like, and if they do, the system has stripped them of the muscle to get in a soldier's ass for being ate up.
Sorry to hear that.. My dad, a retired SFC, occasionally went to work in 'fatigues', but most of the time, as I recall, he wore khakis or what he referred to as his 'sun tans'. When he traveled it was in his class A uniform. He always looked STRAC regardless of which uniform he was wearing. :thumb:

:bang:

Service strength:

US Marine Corps = 203,000

US Coast Guard = 42,000

Forgotten and under appreciated, until they need us that is.

Semper Paratus

They could spiff up our uniforms a bit, although I always wore it with pride.

Sorry to all you Coasties, I should have included you. I have always heard that your bootcamp is the 2nd toughest. I don't think I have ever seen your dress uniform, at least I just don't remember it. Post a pic.
If it wasn't for a remark your football coach made when I took my son to visit the USCGA, he may have gone there. It really turned my son off, and I could not believe I was hearing him say something like what he said.
I love your mission and really do think you are under-appreciated.
From a Semper Fi to a Semper Paratus, thank you.

Your so right about the boot Camp, a lot of young people think it's going to be easy because it's the Coast Guard.....Surprise!!

Just think of our uniform like the AF uniform only darker Blue and with gold buttons. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would, computers sometimes confuse us old guys.

Sorry to hear about your conversation with the football coach at the USCGA, What on earth did he say.

My son had really long hair, he stopped cutting it in 8th grade, right after his mother left the family. His hair would stick out of his helmet, and everyone in the state knew him as the kid from ------- with the long hair. We are from a small state. Some time during his HS years, he decided he was going to let it keep growing and donate it to Locks of Love right before graduation. His hair got to be 27" long. The school held a fund raiser, to raffle off cutting his hair. That raised $ 2,000 which was donated to Brain Cancer Research, the State association for ******** citizens (or whatever PC name they call it now) and the hair went to Locks of Love. There were news crews, the mayor was there, a well known politician was to attend, but he had a last minute meeting in DC. The well known politician is extremely well known.

In any case, we went into to meet the coach, the wrestling coach happened to see us and took us to the FB coaches office. He asked my son if he wrestled and my son said he did. He asked us to stop at his office when we were done with Coach George (I think that was his name).
When coach George walked in the office, the first thing out of his mouth was, "I don't usually recruit kids like you." I could not believe I heard that, and a moment later, I asked him if he does not normally recruit kids that were All-State FB players, starting at LB since 8th grade on a HS Varsity Team, All-Conference from 9th-12th grade, and academically qualified for all the service academies and being recruited by most Ivy League schools. The coach started back-pedalling and said he did not mean it as he said it. It really turned my son off, and I thought what an a------.
I really did like the CG mission and was hoping he would pick USCGA, but that trip sealed the deal.

Devildog,
Sounds like USCGA lost out on an outstanding kid.

I think he is where he is supposed to be. That coach has not been there for 13 years because he is a bad person. I tend to think of it as a misunderstanding.

Great pictures

Does anyone in the Coast Guard even wear those Whites anymore, I don't think I ever saw anyone wear them when I was in, I know I never had a set but that was many moons ago.

The second picture is a little dark, the CG Uniforms are much more Blue in person, like the AF only darker.

Now as for the other pictures....just got off the phone with a recruiter and dang it I'm to old to join back up again.

Your second picture is a cadet pic of the Service Dress Alfa, not worn anymore.

A better representation of the SDB:
