We received a letter from AFROTC Unit today. Most interesting things in the letter was if the scholarship can not be activated the parents will need to cover the tuition. The college will need to reimburse the parents when AFROTC pays. Cadets have 45 days to activate they must make weight, pass the PFT and clear DODMERB to do so. If you can't do so with the time frame you may lose the scholarship.

Also they gave the if your are in legal trouble speach.

So if your kid is going to a $$$ school and haven't cleared DODMERB be prepared to open your checkbook.

Hopefully anyone who applied for a ROTC scholarship also applied for financial aide so some of that can possibly kick in if necessary. But yeah, it could put a crimp in college plans.

Army ROTC gives cadets until the end of the semester - but the stipend won't be paid until the all clear (weight, pass PFT and DoDMERB). Also, they don't back pay.

Does anyone know if it works that way w/ NROTC, as well?

I'm guessing that DoDMERB is just a one time thing but does the PFT need to be passed every year to keep the scholarship viable?

Army ROTC requires the PFT to be passed every year if they are contracted or under scholarship. But when they go active duty they have to pass it every year anyway.

Sealion,

The PFT must be passed EVERY year for active duty, and for (as Just A Mom said) Cadet Command to continue to pay you, you must make height/weight or Tape (in my case) every year. But your batallion may require differently, for example, in order for me to keep my room scholarship and board scholarship (University issued scholarships) I have to pass one every semester. That is something you may also want to look into.

Canderson, so now that its been a little while, I've a question. How much time do you find that you can dedicate to staying in shape for such tests? Have you joined a group or work out on your own? How's the work out facilities there? And BTW, ain't it about time for a hair cut? :D Bet you meet yourself coming & going. Go make us proud & answer when you get a chance. :thumb:

Well, from all the years of football and wrestling I'm in pretty good shape, but I did notice when I got here that a big part of the Army is endurance, compared to short burst of strength and energy (as in my sports), so it took me awhile. Luckily, my roommate is in Air Force ROTC so we work out alot together. Also, Ranger Challenge is a great way for any Cadet to get into shape, if they aren't in any. Yeah, I do meet myself coming and going...It's alot of work, especially since I'm the Freshman Class CO, I have alot of added stuff to do. Not to mention, I'm in Color Guard and Ranger Challenge, on top of getting ready for Airborne this summer and of course occasionally going to class. ;) and yeah, I actually do need to get a haircut...It's about 1/8 of an inch now. haha
