LETTERS BEING SENT OUT THIS WEEK FOR NON SELECTS (NROTC)

These should be physical letters. And the portals might also update by the end of the week. But our website has been very finicky.
Thank you for the update. In some ways, a physical letter is better than a email. At least we won't be tempted to check emails and the portal several times a day to check for a update. It's in the daily mail, or wait till tomorrow. DS did go ahead and send in his CP application for his school last week at least. He wanted to try and guarantee a CP spot while waiting for the scholarship decision to finalize. Good luck to everyone!!

Wait, can you send a CP application even if you are still in the applicant pool for a scholarship? Will it mess with your scholarship application at all? I was wondering about that, because I need to apply if I don't receive a scholarship. Thanks!

Based on my (admittedly very limited) personal experience I would recommend you reach out to your school's unit as soon as possible. I did this and found out about a preparatory scholarship they offer that I was able to apply for. Your school might have something like that you don't want to miss out on or even just to get in as a college programmer.

It should not effect your scholarship.

The battalion at my DD's first choice school told her to wait until she finds out one way or the other about the scholarship because he said it was a fairly simple process to apply to be a college programmer.

Just wondering if you know whether portals were updated? DS says his portal still shows no decision, but not sure if that’s b/c not updated. Many thanks.

Is there any idea when decisions for alternates who are in the pool of 150 are made?
And from what it sounds like the odds are pretty good?

There is a board next week and things should wrap up fairly rapidly after that. And just to clarify, that number of 150 is based on an approximation of how many people might be offered an appointment to a service academy and then choose the academy over NROTC. And then we need to check which tier major they are. For example, if 100 people opt to select USNA and decline NROTC, and every one of those 100 are tier 1 or 2, then they need to be replaced by tier 1 or 2. We cannot exceed 15% tier 3 by statute. Just trying to manage expectations.

So far, DD’s portal still says no decision and she has not received a letter, although I realize one could still be delivered next week. Hope is an amazing thing! Still watching for good news from either NROTC or USNA😁 But, at the end of the day, if both turn out to be a no, things will work out! As the fictional coach Taylor said, “clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose!” We definitely live by that motto in our house!

No change in portal or letter received, but letter could still be on its way. We are hoping for the best, but preparing for a TWE in our house. Good luck to all today and this week.

So, as the title suggests, letters will be sent out this week for those who were non-selects for Navy Option NROTC. I do not know if Marine Options will be notified of non select status, but it seems as though most have been notified if they were selected. I would recommend MO who have questions reach out to their ROO for their status.

There will be around 138 notifications going out, and there are still around 150 that are sitting in the alternate queue. This does not mean every alternate will be selected, but I would say it means if you were non-selected and proceed on to be a College Programmer, you have a very good chance at the 3 year sideload next year.

Without going into too much detail, I took a look at most of the scores for non-selects and a driving factor seems to be performance on the interview. It's hard to make a generalized comment about why that can be a factor, but I believe people tend to focus a LOT on extra-curricular activities but do not really prepare for the interview process. Just something to consider for those of you who are looking to apply for the next cycle which just opened up.
Good information as always! I know my DS last year worked very hard to prep for the interview. I interview anywhere from 50-100 recent college grads annually. Also a lot of mid-career candidates for non military positions in my field. The performance by candidates under about 22 years old interview really not impressive. That lack of skill set is the norm and should always be a coachable section especially when it delivers such a big part of score. Every board of every branch is filled with great potential and some get left out due to this. Very interesting to see someone "in the know" identify it as a common missing link. Especially since I have a Jr in HS who will be in next years ROTC application process.

Exact same situation here.... tier 3 though sooo hopeful, but realistic!

So just a little added stress for you! As if there isn’t enough already🤣
Right?! We are all dealing with stress in our lives but this year is about to do me in lol. Also waiting on hubby's orders so we can move 7000 miles away overseas in less than 4 months, trying to sell our house, manage a lawsuit from an accident that put DS in great jeopardy for any sort of military service and therefore DoDMERB waivers, raise two younger kids with endless soccer practices to drive to, and DH works out of state currently, home every other weekend. This too shall pass is all I can tell myself! 🫣

Perhaps you could pick up a few hobbies to help destress your life? 😏😎

Ok, you can put down the brick.......I was attempting light humor. Our final board commenced this morning, so in a week to 10 days, this season will be a wrap.

So, to clarify, all alternates will be notified of their decision within 10 days?
