LETTERS BEING SENT OUT THIS WEEK FOR NON SELECTS (NROTC)

You have to go to NSI before the scholarship kicks in. Most Cpers at NSI are rising sophmores who got a 3 year scholarship awarded. Some units are able to send incoming freshman CPers to NSI. From what I've gleaned on SAF, it seems to depend on space at NSI and if unit wants/can spend funds to get these freshman CPers to NSI. Really a case by case basis.

My DS sent his CP application in early hoping that will increase the chance of going to NSI as a CP. Can't hurt to try.
I am glad you posted! My daughter's unit's webpage said CPs do not attend NSI. However, she emailed them regarding housing in an ROTC living community and about applying to be a CP, and in the response was told that she may be able to attend NSI. So glad I check the forum! Also, still hoping that she finds out this week that she has a scholarship! Best of luck to everyone else still waiting and wondering!

Curious how you set up CP in case you don’t get selected ?
Apply with the unit at the college you plan to attend. I'd contact the in early May about it so you can attend any orientation activities they have and get on their radar for NSI. In fact it wouldn't hurt to start now.

The breaking news on this forum is that most should find out sometime today even alternates if you made it. Check the portal in a few hours has been the walking orders

IDK what’s worse. Having son get a TWE or being No Decision for months, not really knowing you are an alternate then later today not get the scholarship. Congratulations to all kids and families that rx good news today. Well it’s good news for all because most non selects will go the CP route and it’s nice seeing everyone wanting to serve our country

Agree with everything you said, except the TWE was definitely the worst thing for my DS 😔

If a student is medically DQ’ed for the Scholarship and has to wait for a waiver, can they still participate as a CP?
If your kid is selected for a scholarship and is waiting for a DODMERB waiver/completed physical you can substitute a sports physical to participate in NSI. The form is included with the NSI paperwork and is also available here: https://www.aap.org/en/patient-care/preparticipation-physical-evaluation/ .

My son was an alternate last year and was selected about this same time. Eager to go to NSI, he contacted his unit and got the NSI packet about four days later. He used the sports physical to attend NSI. He graduated and received his Navy BUMED waiver a couple of weeks later. Unfortunately, you can't activate your scholarship without having a qualified medical/medical waiver. The sports physical is just for NSI. The unit is really the best source for info and your child contacting them shows demonstrated interest. That actually goes for college admissions as well.

I did not see where NSI could use a DODMERB physical, my info only referenced a sports physical. Sports physical is easy. You can schedule it yourself, get your doctor to transcribe last summer's sports physical onto the NSI forms (not sure if this was important but we made sure we used the NSI sports physical form because I have dealt with bureaucrats so just to be safe...). We've had our NSI date for a long time now after submitting a sports physical. We are still waiting on a DODMERB medical waiver for a broken nose that happened two years ago.

ALSO PRETTY IMPORTANT: During the DODMERB physical we asked to get the Sickle Cell test and DODMERB refused to allow us to do it. Another reason to be suspicious of the idea that DODMERB physicals meets NSI requirements.

Another thing we found is this sickle cell test for NSI. DS born in 2005 and not tested. Did it Monday but Military Clinic sends the test out and takes a week or 10 days.

Good Point! The sickle cell test! I forgot about that! It delayed DS's NSI packet for several weeks. It was a nightmare trying to get those old records. We just ended up doing another one locally and paying out of pocket.

Dear Nephew (was an alternate) got his 4 Year selection email today. Rounds of applause from Batavia IL for GWU PNS! All the info this year was TREMENDOUSLY helpful. 👏
Give it a moment......the non selects will be muttering my name under their breath. But there is always the College Programmer route so hope is not lost!

I get it. TWE from USNA was a heartbreaker last week for him, and legacy family had been excited to return to Annapolis. But he was prepared to do CP and may still reapply to USNA. Rough ride, for sure. And he still needs a waiver, so still not 100% across finish line. But he’s stoked and so are we. Per your inquiry on another thread, he’s Tier 1 BTW.
