I believe that 3 letters of recommendation are mandatory and 1 is optional. My question is there anything to stop you submitting more letters of recommendation. My understanding of the application process is that there is nothing to stop you from submitting additional supporting documents but that these will not necessarily be reviewed. Is this correct?

If you send more than are asked for, you prove nothing except that you can't read and follow simple instructions. Don't even use the optional ones unless you can genuinely add to your profile by including them. If you post an extra and it's just a general form letter that is relatively typical among teachers, I would argue that you would be harming more than helping your application, or at least that that possibility exists.
