I’m just about through 75% of my application for class of 2027. I already filled out the required recommendation fields (Math, English, etc…) but there is also the option to add additional LOC’s. I added my water polo coach since he has seen me grown outside of the classroom. Is it worth it to add optional LOR’s?

I’m also interning over the summer with the CA GOP. At the end of the internship I will receive a LOR from the Chairman and a congressmen. Would it be better to wait and submit my application with these LOR’s?

I would say to absolutely do the extra letters of recommendation. That being said, make sure that the people you are asking truly know your character and work ethic. Title doesn't go as far as some think. I personally did a mentor and coach for my extra letters of recommendation. Remember, you want these people to be able to speak very highly of you in every regard if USNA was to contact them in anyway.

Ask yourself who would write a meaningful letter of recommendation that truly reflects who you are as a person, as a student, and as a leader.

Hope this helps :)

I absolutely recommend sending additional LOR. I firmly believe the LORs that DD teachers sent allowed admissions to see the type of person DD was other than a good resume with a GPA and SAT score . I also agree that they should be from teachers that truly know you and can attest to your character and specific leadership skills, not a generic “excellent student “ type of LOR.

Also wanted to add that there is no rush to get your application in . Wait until you have all LORs before you submit .
